Not that I got a Christmas card from the White House, but I'm watching The View, and Barbara Walters showed the one she got. This is what it says on the inside of the card:
Nehemiah 9:6 (NIV) You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
Of course, then there was plenty of discussion about how 'politically correct' that is and all. Is there debate over the fact that there's a 'national Christmas tree'? Probably.
Here in Wisconsin, there's the 'Freedom from Religion' group that doesn't want the decorated tree in Madison called a 'Christmas' tree because "using the word Christmas would offend nonreligious people." I'm sure that group is active in other parts of the country, trying to make sure no one has to be exposed to religion. I personally don't believe that Christmas is even a religious holiday for most people, but wouldn't trying to remove all references to Christmas offend the religious people? The idea in this country is freedom of religion - not from religion as that group is trying to push.
Yes, it bugs me that Christmas is so over-the-top in-your-face for so long every year. It's one day out of 365, but there is so much emphasis on that one day. Of course, most of that push comes from the retailers. It's not about religion. It's all about making money. Actually, if I did celebrate Christmas, I might be offended by that. As it is, I'm just more thankful every year that I don't have to deal with all of it. I don't have to shop. I don't have to decorate. I don't have to stress myself out. Putting up with the ads and the music and the obsession. I guess I can handle that - and the clearance sales afterwards are nice.
And it's an anonymous posting. Those drive me crazy, and I shouldn't read unsubstantiated writings. And one anonymous account shouldn't be set as the standard for millions. I could give an equally…

Yes, if there's a clear separation that could work. I'm a bit worried about the freedom of religion thing too, but maybe if it was very very clear that there's a difference between the government's…
