A vast sea of potential
Captura’s technology delivers a variety of solutions that address urgent sustainability needs across a range of markets. From removing and reusing excess CO₂ from the environment to delivering high-performance, low-cost electrodialysis products, we help partners and customers meet critical sustainability goals and open new opportunities for innovation.
Carbon Dioxide Removal
Remove carbon. Heal the climate.
Climate science is clear: in addition to rapidly reducing emissions, the world must also remove billions of tons of excess CO2 from the atmosphere. Carbon removal is essential for addressing unavoidable emissions and reversing historical ones, making it a critical tool for companies and governments working to achieve net zero.
Our Direct Ocean Capture technology removes CO2 from the ocean, enhancing the ocean’s natural capacity to draw CO2 from the air. The captured CO2 is then permanently stored using secure methods like geological storage.
Captura is offering purchase agreements for permanent and verifiable carbon removal credits from our first commercial facilities.
Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis
Advanced solutions for global industries
At the core of Captura’s Direct Ocean Capture technology lies our high-performance bipolar membrane electrodialysis system that delivers up to 10 times the performance of leading alternatives, while significantly reducing energy use and capital costs. From our production facility in Pasadena, California, this proprietary platform is now being manufactured to support a broad range of industries—including direct lithium extraction, desalination and wastewater valorization, energy storage, and electrochemical carbon capture and removal.
Captura’s vertically integrated production approach ensures exceptional efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, with the flexibility to develop custom solutions tailored to the specific needs of each industrial application.
Sustainable Fuel and Products
Reuse carbon
for good.
Once excess carbon is removed from the ocean via Direct Ocean Capture, it can be put toward a number of sustainable uses. In addition to storage, captured CO2 can be turned into sustainable fuel to power existing vehicles. For hard-to-decarbonize transport sectors such as aviation and shipping, this provides a drop-in ready alternative to fossil fuels, with a high energy density and low carbon footprint. Alternatively, CO2 can be turned into a range of low-carbon products such as plastics, chemicals and building materials.
Ocean Acidification Mitigation
Clean ocean.
Clean future.
Captura’s Direct Ocean Capture technology releases seawater that is CO2 depleted and slightly less acidic. If deployed in semi-enclosed parts of the ocean, such as bays, the process has the potential to counteract ocean acidification locally. This could have positive implications for vulnerable parts of the ocean or ocean-dependent communities, such as seafood farmers. Captura is working with third-party experts to evaluate this potential co-benefit of Direct Ocean Capture.
