City Fight

After the city ruins skirmish, the following game was to turn it up to eleven and get the full 6′ by 4′ table out for a bigger game of Grimdark Future.
Image
Joken expanded his Grey Knight force out to 2100 points and I matched his points value with Tyranids.
Image
As usual, once we get into a game, I tend to forget to take enough pictures, or at least pictures that are goood enough to post here.
Image
It was a really good game, and I am looking forward to get some more big games played this year. As recent posts suggest, I have plans to get some newish bug models added to the swarm.

Whats On The Table? Zoats!

Finally, for the new units for in the Alien Hive Nids army, a few Zoats will be repainted to give me two units of three models.
Image
One unit will be mainly heavy support, with the second unit being a bit more charge forward and be shooty.

There are more should I need them or want to paint them.

Whats On The Table?

I wanted to add a few more models to my Tyranid force a while back, so I took advantage of the Combat Patrol early issues to buy a few of Von Ryans Leapers.
Image
As the body and head was once part, I could not be bothered to do much reposing, so I limited myself to just randomly swapping the claws around.
Image
Three of the models were built following the instructions, so six others ended up being a bit different.
Image
It may be a while until they get undercoated, too cold here right now.

About Time…

This was one of the first large FDM models I printed last year. I still have not given it any undercoat yet, mainly because it so so big and spikey, but also because I broke it…
Image
I had to pin and fix a leg and stick its head back on. So after doing that, I have added loads of Milliput around all of the joints and liquid Green Stuff to try to hide joins in the body.

Since doing all that, I have managed to break it again, this time just a front leg has snapped…

No Limits on the Red Moon

After our games in a Dieselpunk and a Black Powder era, we had a go with the new No Limits Third Dynasty rules in a sci-fi setting.

Mr Steinberg and I tried out several different unit types in this test game. Heavy Marines, Core Marines, Scouts and a light tank. The Heavy Marines were quite resilient and had a couple of wounds each, whereas the Core Marines and Scouts were single wound models, but could be in larger six man units.
Image
For the Bugs, I tried a horde rule allowing weaker units to have up to twelve models, the idea being to have a cheap points cost unit with limited or no ranged attacks charging across the battlefield. Quite possible dying in droves.
Image
The first game worked out pretty much as we expected. The main tweaks is to add some specific rules for different period settings to provide more flavour, these are mostly for sci-fi forces as there is no limit (see what I did there?) to their quirkiness.

Zoat Problem

Many years ago I had a mad idea to do a small army of Zoats. I started to pick up the occasional quadruped on eBay and after a few years I had abouty thirty. Thirty too many one might say. Which would appear to be true, I am never going to paint up this many now.

I do plan to several units of three models, which will be of use in OPR and other sci-fi games.
Image
As these originally were released as “diplomat” models for a Tyranid force, I have always wanted to proxy them into a Nids army somehow.

So reducing the number down to tweleve is the plan, so if you need a Zoat, keep an eye on eBay.

Sprue Goo Filling

In all the years I have been making models for wargames, I have never tried using any “sprue goo”, just never had the need. Until now. The large Tyrandid style critter I printed some time ago did not go together very well at the legs joins. There were some large gaps even after hacking large chunks off the legs.
Image
I mixed up some sprue goo, the first lot did not work, there is not enough acetone in nail varnish remover to melt plastic sprue.

I bought some 100% acetone off eBay and that worked a treat. It actually sat in a jar for several weeks before I got around to trying to use it and I had to add a bit more acetone to loosen it up again.
Image
Not being particularly tidy at it, I just sccoped lumps into the leg cavities and worked it into some sort of shape.

I think the next step is to use a small amount of Milliput to add a skin over the sprue goo and make it look better.

Was it worth the hassle? I could have just used Milliput to fill the gaps, but at least I now know what sprue goo can and can’t be used for.

Huge Tyranid Problems

Having printed some very big bits to make a large Tyranid creature, I have found a few issues with the components. I think the actual STL files are based on a scaled up Tyranid Epic model that then had loads of spikes and detail added. The problem I found was that the legs and arms did not fit in the body sockets.
Image
I also had a few challenged with some areas not getting printed correctly, but I will use a bit of green stuff to tidy these up.
Image
Although it looks okay with the legs glued on, I had to do a load of hacking on the legs to get them to fit.
Image
I need to fill these gaps to make sure the legs have a sufficient join to the body to stop them from breaking off. I have made up a jar of sprue goo and will use that along with sprue bits to fill in the rather large cavities.

This should be interesting…
