A little pronunciation lesson

I know we confused a lot of people by picking a name that no one has really heard of. A google search doesn’t bring much up except for links that have to do with a terrible metal/punk band in Florida. (yay.) And one site for baby names says it’s “an English boy name meaning ‘God is Just'” and that it’s “mainly used in the Bible.” (I’m not sure how a name that is mainly used in the Bible results in an English name, but oh well)  To us, it’s a combination of Hebrew words, one from a word meaning “refuge” or “fortress” – the same root that Adullam, the cave where David hid when he ran from Saul, comes from –  and the other from YHWH; so we take the name to mean “YHWH is refuge”. Now you’ll all know, but if you’re only in contact with me via the internet and have only seen her name in writing, you may not be sure how to say  it. We did wrestle over various spellings to try to communicate pronunciation as best we could and we settled on this one. But it can still be tricky. So to help us out I enlisted the big sister to show you how it’s done. She also introduces us to a few of her dolls. She’s pretty creative with the names these days! Also, you have to catch the the super sweet sigh 10 seconds in. It’s one of my favorite Adaliah noises. It’s like she’s totally exasperated with us all but yet she doesn’t mind all that much. It’s the baby equivalent of an eye roll.

Adaliah’s room is coming along! Back in this post I gave a little preview of where I was headed with her room. Well, progress is being made.

Here’s a couple before photos:

The angle of this one is kind of helpful since it shows the crib and the window seat in relation to each other. However, I’m definitely not a skilled photographer as seen in the lighting of this picture… Taking pictures of windows is hard. What’s the secret??

And here’s this little corner with the sage green wall and finished mobile.

Here is previous sage green wall turned Teal! Or Pratt & Lambert Eucalyptus Leaf matched to Olympic no-VOC paint in eggshell finish if you want to get specific. The top picture is reading a lot bluer that it really is. The second photo might be more realistic.

Also complete are the curtains. It’s kind of hard to see the fabric well in my poorly shot window photo, so I’ll include the ole preview photo as well.

Also completed is the crib skirt I made this weekend. Once Adaliah gets bigger and the mattress moves down, it’ll show up a lot more.Image

And here’s a couple other little things in her room:

I added some color to this side of the room with a new change pad cover. Unexpectedly matching is the cool box on the shelf I got to store baby memorabilia in (like a baby book, but easier to maintain) and check out my cute stash of medium sized gDiapers on the 2nd shelf. They match too!

Phase 2 will include:

  • A window seat cushion in the same fabric as the bedskirt.
  • 2 new wet bags to store dirty cloth diapers in the smaller print fabric that’s in the preview photo.
  • A pillow for the rocking chair using whatever fabric is left over.
  • Stamped silver flowers on the teal wall. Here’s a little sneak peak of those: (I decided on the color of the flowers on the top. That’s what you get when you mix Champagne and Gold paints.)

  • And finally, I want to find a rug. Ikea has some good options. Too bad I’m 5-6 hours from the nearest Ikea and they don’t ship rugs. Grr!
