What Inspired us: Our project was inspired by this app that Max had an idea of recreating certain aspects, 'Focus Friend." This was gonna be our prototype project, but then we had another idea regarding productivity for kids (4-10). We noticed that many children are struggling with organization, motivation, and proper management. In addition, kids love games. Without games, kids can barely survive in this generation. We had a question in mind: "What if we take productivity and turn it into a game?"

What we built: This idea is what can teach kids proper management, organization, and financial organization, and mainly productivity. We created a game in which parents can type in a four-digit PIN code to log in tasks for the kids to complete by the end of the day. When a kid finishes a designated task assigned by their parent, they will receive 10 coins, which they can use to buy something from the shop at its appropriate value. We can turn everyday responsibilities into engaging activities that can make kids more interested and motivate them to do the right things now and in the future.

What we learned: We learned teamwork skills, and learnt more about how C# works as an overall language, and we understood security. The security aspect we understood because the PIN system guarantees a safe space for parents to make sure their kid doesn't do anything suspicious. Lastly, we also reward kids on when they finish the tasks and accomplish so much in the gaming system. So, we learnt that rewards are attainable and can provide a good life lesson for many.

How we built the project: We first brainstormed a couple of ideas, which we spent 2-3 hours on during the hackathon. Later, we designed the system on a Google Slides presentation, and we had the specific aspects and template on how it is supposed to look. Then, we implemented the code on a software known as Unity and used a language known as C#. We barely used AI software as it was a little bit unnecessary, as we knew what we were coding up.

What challenges we faced:

  • Only one of us knew C#, and it was too late in the project to implement live share
    • It took us a while to get the idea (3-4 hours)
    • Time management, some of us weren't doing too much for periods of time, while others were working very hard
    • lots of bugs

What we plan to do in the future: We plan to make this game even better by trying to change the sprites, the appearances, and the background colors. Moreover, we would like to modify the system a little bit as well to produce clearer results. We also want to make sure we add more rewards in the shop for kids to use and be flexible throughout the game. We want to go from Planington Pal 0.1 to Planington Pal 0.2.
