Getting busy on the new Drum Carder

My David tri-drum carder is wonderful! So far I have carded several bats of pink Shetland and some natural colored white and brown spotted Shetland. The batts are coming out so soft. I’m putting them through three times and they are beautiful, fluffy and oh so soft!

Wheel

  • Currently on the spinning wheel is Shetland dyed pink with a commercial dye someone gave me.
  • Waiting after that, I have some caramel colored alpaca, some dark brown alpaca and some cream baby doll sheep wool to card together first, thens pin for Christmas socks my hiker boys.
  • Third, some black Merino/Ramboullet/? mix I picked up at Zeilingers for two projects. Cloche hat to crochet for a Christmas gift and and the Irish Knit Poncho by Adele Huey McCall. I just love it – it’s so pretty!
  • Then it’s on to my naturally dyed Shetland in pale moss green for no particular reason except the dye made from goldenrod came out beautiful. I haven’t decided if I want to mix it with some of the pink and some natural Shetland for a nice colorful mix.

Knitting

I absolutely adore the way my newest knitting project is working up.  I am making the Whole Heart Baby Sling found in Shibori Knits by Gina Wilde.  It is beautiful.  My expectant co-worker is getting it shortly.

Crochet

I’m trying to make a duffer hat from my spun pink merino/silk blend with a little Tropic Firestar spun in for bling.  I’m patterning it after a cordery one that I love.  I am making it oversize and want to felt it.  If it works out, I’ll publish the pattern.
