About
I’m Patrick (he/him). Arcuru is my usual online handle.
I blog here occasionally about tech, but I usually write more code than blog articles. I often hang around OSS spaces, read interesting research papers, and occasionally go outside.
I worked at several big tech companies which you’ve heard of. I spent my employed time chasing interesting projects with a performance focus.
After about a decade of work I decided to retire/FIRE at 32 in early 2022. I spent a lot of time planning for it, having found the FIRE movement back in college. I wasn’t a fan of working a corp job and I quit as soon as I was sure that I wouldn’t starve before I died.
Part of the reason why I didn’t enjoy working was because I (in retrospect) was pretty clearly struggling with debilitating anxiety. This is an accurate example of my inner monologue while trying to check my email most of the time. I’m doing much better now, but if I ignore you please don’t give me shit for it. I’m probably just having a bad day/week/month.
I do more actual tech work now though than when I was employed, but I get to work on my schedule and on my interests. Some weeks I spend 40+ hours on a tech project, and other weeks I don’t open my IDE at all.
I spend my non-tech time cooking/baking, trail running (when my chronic health issues are under control), hanging out with my wife and two cats, and generally trying to be a good human being.
Also video games.
Lots of video games.
If you want a more detailed look at my tech background, check out my Consulting page.
I write a lot of my own OSS code and contribute to many different projects as well. See my Projects page for a detailed look at my own projects.
I self-host more services than I can keep track of with a slowly growing personal homelab, mostly for private use but I also host a suite of Fediverse services at bestiver.se.
Feel free to send me an email if you’d like to chat, or reach out on Matrix. My Email and Matrix are both on this domain, with the username “patrick”.
I will definitely ignore you if you just send “Hi”. https://nohello.net
