What do you do when you can’t let your friends know what’s happened to you because you can’t get on line? Worry! yes, and that’s about all you can do. For one reason or another real life played me up good and proper this week and I was off-line for three days, which isn’t like me, as I usually drop people an email or a message so they know not to worry. I had stories lined up for Virtually London (lite) that I couldn’t put on, and things to tell people as well as places I’d agreed to go to! My stories will have to wait till next week as new news happened in the meantime that really wanted putting on there and then. What a difference a few days makes in SL, as I came back to messages and people waiting to chat to me. I can’t tell you how pleased I was to speak to the people I knew had been wondering where I had been!! It only proves what a fragile environment we all live in with this Second Life and how much we care about the friends we have met in-world. I hate to think that one day I might not know what has happened to one of my friends if they suddenly disappear. After chatting to everyone and sorting out a couple of problems, it was time to have some fun and I went to Brie and Seany’s Tropical Harmony sim for their Pirates and Wenches night, it was good to be back!!
Music at Last, it Was so Simple, and Congratulations to Eliza
June 20, 2010I’d been without music all the time I have lived at my plot of land, it’s something I’d always wanted but never really understood how I could get it. I’d looked at the information about the land quite a few times, but suddenly decided to look again, and scrolling to the media bit it looked like it could work, I suddenly decided to type the word music in search in the general menu to see if there was a clue there. Then I saw the word radio and I went over to the sim to have a look. Well there it was, so simple! You just had to buy one of their radios, take it home and switch it on! just like in real life!! They aren’t dear either, just 395 Lindens.
I can’t believe how easy and how good it is, there are loads of channels to pick from too. I told Hibiscus and Drax about it and they both went out and got one as well. I went over to Drax’s apartment to see him install it, it was a little bit different there though, because he rents the skybox, he had to do something about deeding the radio to the group before it would work and Clive, who is the building manager there, came along to show us how.
It has been such a busy week again for me that I haven’t had time to do much in SL, but I was aware of my friend Eliza’s group notices she was putting out about collecting money for the people who were victims of the terrible floods in Poland. Finally I looked at all the notices together and went over to donate some money for them.
Eliza and her friends are doing really well, they have hit and gone above the 50,000 Linden mark and the charity is still collecting , so if you want to go over and give just a little it would be very welcome, most of those people have nothing left, their homes and possessions all gone!! The links are at the bottom of my CNN article about it. Also many Congratulations to Eliza on the birth of her baby girl!! I’ll be plaguing her for some pictures of the baby soon!!!
New Boots, New London and Kicking My House Into Touch!
June 10, 2010Hibiscus and I had taken Pixi over to the wonderful store called Redgraves to get her a new skin and I had forgotten all the nice things there. I went back to wander on my own and spotted some great boots that I instantly thought I needed more than anything else in the whole of SL. They are biker boots and quite scruffy really with the belts and buckles undone, but a thing of wonder with so much detail. I tried to fight it, but in the end I gave in and got them! I was useless at fighting it the next day too, because I went back and bought another pair!!
Drax came over for a chat later and I ventured outside my house, can’t remember why, but he was inside and I was outside so I couldn’t be bothered to walk over to the front door, being extra smart, I clicked on the window to make it phantom so I could walk through it, and then it all happened!! The house, which I have had for some time, must be scripted because it all went strange, like a giant jelly rocking about, poor Drax got thrown around as the house just moved all over the place!! I tried to edit it again to make it stable, but it wasn’t having any of it, and still wobbled around. Luckily it’s in two parts and this was just one of them, but I decided to take it back into my inventory and try later. We were left sitting on a door outside, good job it wasn’t raining in SL!!
Well I had to put all the fixtures and fittings back in my inventory as well and it will take some organising, but I suppose I was getting a bit tired of the same decor, so it’s a chance to do something else in there. The next day I went wandering and found a very pretty sim to be alone with my thoughts.
I sat on a fence and started to sort my inventory out, well I tried to, but you can never be alone for long, a couple came along on horseback and said hello! Nice of them to stop, and they looked like they were enjoying their ride, they seemed curious to know what I was doing, but the mention of sorting inventories filled them with horror too! so they said farewell and rode away. I had to get back to doing a bit of writing, so leaving my inventory still in its vast mess, I headed back home. Then today I decided to head over to the Doctor Who New London sim to see what they had been up to over there. They are getting ready for the World Cup match between England and the USA on Saturday, starting with a party tomorrow night at 1pm. I met sim manager Laredo Lowtide and he told me where the party was to take place. Laredo and sim owner Kat Kassner had kindly offered me a base in their sim the other day, and Laredo showed me a great shop I can use, so I’m looking forward to doing it all out, I hope I don’t put it away like I did my house though, hehe!!!
