10th Anniversary

I am posting our 10 year anniversary video 10 days after our anniversary... fitting, isn't it? Once of the funniest (OK, to me and Chance) quotes of our marriage goes like this:

Scenario: Chance and I are getting ready to go to San Antonio with Kim and Craig Slaughter. This was when Chance and Craig were coaching in Hearne, so it was at least 7 years ago. Craig called and said that we did not need to leave as early as we thought.
Chance: How can you still be running late when you have an extra 30 minutes?
Alyssa: It's a gift.

So now, whenever I am running late (and that is somewhat often), I just remind Chance that it is a gift. Maybe he does not think it is as funny as I do, but sometimes it helps.

We have had so many adventures together throughout dating and marriage, and hope that this video captures some of our most favorite moments. I have loved every minute with Chance and can't wait to make thousands more memories.

Camp Adkison's Newest Camper

When Zoe and Xavier spend a week with Nana and Papa during the summer, we call it Camp Adkison. Well, while Chance and I were in Vegas, Camp Adkison welcomed Cade as their newest camper! This was the longest that Chance and I have been away from Cade, and we were so happy to know that he was in great hands. Here is all the fun they had!

Cade is excellent at convincing grandparents to take him to Chuck E. Cheese. They managed to get in 2 visits in 4 days... pretty impressive!

Vegas, Baby!

Vegas was a perfect way to celebrate our 10 years of marriage! It is somewhere that we both have never been before and is truly an experience that everyone should have. There is so much to see! We saw just about everything we wanted to, and still had plenty of time to hang out and just enjoy being together.

Our trip started with a 4 hour layover at the DFW airport. We walked and walked and walked, and found a yoga studio! I was so excited to do a little bit of yoga before getting on the plane again.

Image

Almost as soon as we arrived, we hit the casino in our hotel (Planet Hollywood). It was not a very successful first attempt.

Image

We ate dinner that night at a fabulous restaurant called Koi. Highly recommended by one of my coworkers, it has delicious sushi and a unique and beautiful atmosphere. This was a great way to officially kick off our Vegas vacation. If you're reading this, thank you Ledric!

Image

After dinner we walked across the street to see the Bellagio fountains. The only other time I've seen these was on Ocean's Eleven, so I was a bit disappointed that we actually had to share the view with a zillion other people and couldn't stand right in front like the actors did!

Image

The good thing about having a zillion people around, though, was finding a nice only semi-drunk person to take our picture.

Image

Then we walked around a little to see all of the lights

Image

And we found Cade's favorite Transformer - Bumblebee!

Image

The next morning we walked down the strip towards the MGM Grand and found the M&M store! 4 stories of anything and everything M&M. It was magical!

Image

One of Chance's favorite Vegas stories is that the airport yoga studio and the M&M store were my favorite parts of the trip. He may not be entirely wrong!

Later that afternoon we got ready for our Cirque du Solei show. On the way, we had our first attempt at our anniversary photo. I had a great idea to make a sign that resembled a football scoreboard that we would hold in our anniversary photo. I actually made the sign in Vegas and carried it around with us waiting for just the right photo op. Chance loved this. Our first picture was taken in front of the door to our favorite casino, Paris.

Image

This picture was OK, but was not quite what I was hoping for. So, the search for the perfect setting carried on.

Fortunately, our next stop was the gondola ride in the Venetian. We had a hilarious gondolier and really nice co-riders, and they took this picture for us.

Image

Now this is more what I had in mind! Happy 10th Anniversary to us! (And goodbye to the sign)

We ate dinner at a tasty Mexican food restaurant and saw the Cirque du Solei show, Mystere. Anyone who has an opportunity to see one of these shows should take it. It is truly amazing! We both loved it so much!

After the show, more gambling at Paris. We did a little better this time and it was really fun to be there later at night and have more of the "Vegas" experience.

Image

The next morning, more walking! Seriously, we have never walked this much in our entire lives. This time we headed to the Luxor. It was huge and beautiful!

Image

Then we went back to the Bellagio to see the gardens. I was happy to see how many things are made out of flowers, and Chance was happy that we finally found something free to do :)

Image

Image

Then we walked to the Mirage to see Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden, where the white tigers live.

Image

After dinner we headed once again to Paris, where we had the best night of gambling yet. You can't see it on the screen, but Chance got 3 royal flushes after finishing off the $5 I had been gambling on for over 2 hours. It was very exciting!

Image

Image

We did not bring home this much money... easy come, easy go, apparently. Oh well!

Since we did not consume enough calories while on vacation (ha!), we capped off our trip with a Cinnabon at the airport before we left. I don't think I've ever had one of these before. It was a very sweet ending to our trip!

Image

Thanks to all of our Vegas-going friends who gave us advice on where to eat and what to do, and a HUGE thank you to Nana and Papa for taking care of Cade while we were gone! I'll post pictures of their adventures soon.

Happy Father's Day

Watching Chance be a dad is one of the greatest joys of my life. He is so good with Cade and is such a great example for him. These are a few of my favorite recent pics of Daddy and Cade.

Starting Summer

WARNING: Lots of pictures ahead! We got our computer back from Best Buy much earlier than expected (Thank you, Geek Squad!!), so I'm trying to catch up with photo editing and blogging.

So... this post includes everything we did at the start of summer up until our Vegas trip. Here we go:

We started our summer with a trip to the Houston Zoo with Natalie, Henry, and Kelsey.

Image

The zoo just added a dinosaur exhibit. Guess who was excited about that?

The next day, we visited Grandma and Grandpa Locklear in Deer Park.

That night, we went to Chance's principal's retirement party. While this may sound a little dull, I guarantee you it was nothing but that! Caldwell people can throw a good party! This was Chance's last official event as a Caldwell Hornet. It was bittersweet saying one more goodbye to some of our favorite people from Caldwell. But, we are definitely excited about his wonderful opportunity at College Station High School and working so much closer to home!

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of Chance's principal, Mr. Meckel. But here are Chance, Coach Carrigan (athletic director), and Nathan hanging out by the lake

Image

We had a few days together in College Station once Chance finished work. Our library once again offered "Big Rig Day", where all of the city vehicles park at the library for the kids to tour. I love free community events like this!

Not too happy to be closed up in the back of the police car!

Then, I went to a 4-day yoga training in Dallas while Chance and Cade had some male bonding time at home. Chance was great about taking pictures and texting them to me while I was away. But I cannot find them! :( They had a great time going fishing, playing golf, and seeing Madagascar 3. I really enjoyed the training but sure missed my boys!

Right before we left for Vegas, we took Cade to get fitted for his tux. He will be the ring bearer at Chance's cousin Matthew's wedding in a few weeks. It is no secret that Cade does not like wearing anything but athletic shorts and a tshirt (wonder where he got that?), so we were very pleasantly surprised when he was so good at the fitting and seems excited about wearing his tux!

More catch-ups later!

All's Quiet...

on the blogging front when you don't have a computer!

Our computer sprouted a weird green line on the screen last week. I took it to Best Buy, and the good news is the repair is covered under warranty. The bad news is, it will take 4 weeks. 4 weeks!! During summer, where we do fun things all the time and I actually remember to take pictures!

So, don't worry about checking the blog for awhile, because there won't be any posts. Just to tell you what I'll have to catch up on: We've been to the Houston Zoo with Kelsey and Natalie, we visited Grandma and Grandpa Locklear, and Chance and Cade survived 4 days at home while I was at a yoga training. Chance and I also had our 10 year wedding anniversary (unfortunately, while I was gone at the training!) and Chance had his 34th birthday. We will make up for being apart as we go to Vegas this week!! Woo hoo!

Check back in a few weeks for lots of pictures and an anniversary video!
