Annabeth Cate - 11 Months

When we had a second child, people told us that time would fly by, and boy were they right! I can remember the day Annie was born perfectly, and it seems like just a few days ago we were bringing her home from the hospital. But our baby girl turned 11 months on Saturday! Here's what she is up to in the last month of her first year:

Eating: More solid foods are becoming acceptable to our little girl! We've learned that the trick is to give them to her first, before filling her tummy with baby food. Now that I type that, it seems rather obvious. But Chance and I were definitely giving baby food first, and then getting frustrated when she didn't want to try the finger foods. How we have already raised one child is beyond me :) Annie's favorite finger foods are mac and cheese, strawberries, peaches, pears, banana, and cheese quesadilla. Her favorite soft food is definitely Greek yogurt. Meals are a messy adventure, and we are so proud of her for growing up and feeding herself! Unfortunately, sometime Annie feeds herself things that are not food. Over spring break, I tried some outdoor finger painting with Adventurous Annie. After holding the brush for less than 2 seconds. She tasted all of them and liked blue the best (and don't worry - I used 2 recipes for edible paint!

Sleeping: Again, we've had a few fleeting nights with only one waking. While her nursing sessions during the day are pretty quick because she wants to get back to playing, she is very content to have lengthy "bonding" sessions at night. However, a great achievement is that Annie does a good job of putting herself to sleep at night, as we put her down at about 7:15 when she is drowsy but still awake. Naps are a bit of a struggle at home and at school, but her mood is much better if she takes one short and one long nap during the day. Since we are on the go pretty often, she has gotten better at sleeping in various places; most recently, the zoo and the bowling alley!

Growing: Oh my goodness, our girl is growing so much! She is wearing almost all 12 month clothes, and I think she will outgrow things in length before in the waist. Most of her pants are now worn as capris, and I'm learning that girls can extend the life of dresses by wearing them as shirts. How handy! She weighed right at 20 pounds at her most recent doctor appointment.

This is usually the spot in these monthly updates where I include a lovely picture of Annie taken on her month-birthday. This month was a little crazier than most, so I took a pic of her at the birthday party we attended at the bowling alley. At least we will have much better photos taken next month for her birthday!

Enjoying: One of the biggest accomplishments this month was WALKING! Annie took her first little step on February 27. For about a week, she was very hesitant, and then she officially took off! One day during Spring Break, Cade counted that she took 100 steps in one day. She still crawls if she is in a hurry, but she is definitely proud of herself when she walks. So far, she does not seem to be affected by wearing shoes, and only stumbles a little if she is outside on the grass. She absolutely loves being outside, so we've started playing on the back porch after school/ work if there is time before dinner. Time outside is good for all of us! Here she is right before she took her first steps!

Nana took Annie on her first wagon ride this month and she loved it!

Annabeth has brought so much joy to our lives in the past 11 months, and we cannot wait to see what all the next month holds before she turns one!

SB 2014

The title of this post may imply beach or skiing pictures, but spring break Locklear style involves a zoo trip, time in the backyard, and a baseball game. We wouldn't have it any other way!

After Chance opened the weight room for his hard-working powerlifters on Tuesday, we headed out to the Waco Zoo! This was Annie's first zoo trip and we hope she liked it! Our first stop was Chick fil A with Uncle Russell. It was great to see him!

We love the Waco zoo because it is so easy to navigate and it has several fun playgrounds. Annie liked being in her stroller, but we carried her and let her walk a little so she could have the full zoo experience.

It got hotter than we expected and both kids got tired pretty quick.

All 4 of got to be in a picture thanks to a nice college student.

Thursday afternoon was absolutely beautiful, so we took in a Cougar baseball game. Annie's last Cougar baseball game was last May and she spent the whole time in the Bjorn. My how life has changed!

ImageImageImage

Something really cool happened at the game... a photographer from the Eagle saw Chance tossing Annie up in the air, and he asked if he could take pictures for the newspaper! How fun! Chance threw Annie higher and more times than ever, and the photographer got some great shots. Annie and her daddy made the front page of the Region section the next day! They are famous!

After a little nap, we had some fun in the backyard that day too. Chance hung the baby swing up again, and both kids enjoyed the swingset and the sunshine. We are so thankful for the grandparents' generosity when we used the money they gave Cade for Christmas a few years ago to buy this long-lasting toy.

We are so thankful for our teaching jobs that let us spend this week with the kids. Here are a few other random fun memories from spring break... Cade's trip to Chuck E Cheese, a huge meal at Hullabaloo, and Annie shopped the American Girl magazine.

The Cougars are doing great at their powerliftng meets so far, and the girls just took 2nd at State in Corpus!

Starting March with Family and Friends

How is March halfway over already? We've had a fun start to the month with weekend visits to see family and friends. This is the month where Chance travels every weekend to regional and state powerlifting meets, so the kids and I are grateful for lots of fun things to do to keep us occupied! The first weekend, we went to Houston for a long-awaited visit with the Johnson family. I miss them so much! The kids had a great time playing in the front yard, we heard a beautiful violin performance by Natalie, and we shared a tasty lunch. It was wonderful!

The next weekend, the kids and I went to New Braunfels to see my family. It was so good to be there (and so good to get some sweet tea from Granzin's and so good to shop at the San Marcos outlet) but of course we were mainly there to see family!

Annie explored all over Oma and Opa's house, and Cade had a fun adventure at Opa's work.

We also had a great visit with Great Oma. Either she or Annie has been sick on every one of our get togethers since last June, so they really enjoyed seeing each other! I also love seeing the kids play with toys that I played with when I was little... popazoids never go out of style!

We also attempted a 4 generations picture. It was a mild success.

This was our official start to spring break and we sure are ready to not go to school and work for a little while!
