Bliss at Blue Bell

As we are nearing the end of the 3rd week of school for Chance and Cade and the 2nd week for me, I am officially missing summer very much. All of our school activities are fun and great, but the slower pace of summer is much less stressful! So, this is a perfect time to blog about our last summer hurrah - a Blue Bell day with Garrett and his mom, Vandi.

We've gone to the Blue Bell factory almost every summer since Cade turned three, and he enjoys it more every time. The tour had a new addition this year - a quick walk through a freezer that is -22 degrees - the temperature of an ice cream truck. WOW - it was COLD! Cade loved it so much! The ice cream at the end is always a big hit, and I am a new fan of Krazy Kookie Dough! It is good even before 10:00 in the morning!

Our next stop was the Blue Bell Aquatic Center. This is brilliantly positioned right across the street from the Blue Bell factory, and it will now always be part of our trip to Brenham! It has pools of all different depths and enough water falls and squirters to keep the boys entertained for a long time. Vandi and I even had time for a quick selfie!

We ate a lovely lunch at Whataburger on the way home (boys' choice) and then it was time to get back and start our last weekend of summer. It was fantastic to spend the day with friends, and we are so thankful to have the Erskine family here in our neighborhood!

First Day of School

Back to school, back to school... (we are never too old to quote Billy Madison!)

We have started another year of school! Cade is in 1st grade at Greens Prairie Elementary and Chance is teaching and coaching his 3rd year at College Station High School (13th year of teaching overall - wow!). This was my first year to not pick out Cade's first day of school outfit, and he was very proud of the one he chose himself.

Let me tell you, the first day of first grade is NOTHING like the first day of kindergarten. There were no tears, no nerves, just some sadness about summer being over. Cade is very comfortable in his new classroom. He knows 2 kids from his kindergarten class, and his teacher goes to our church. How great! I know he will do very well in Mrs. Williams's class!

Sorry there are no pictures of Chance; he leaves for school too early! And Annie is in the same room at daycare as the summer, so there haven't been any changes for her other than having to go everyday!

My first day of school is September 1st, but faculty went back to work last week for meetings. One meeting was made much more exciting when the first lady of Aggieland arrived!

We are ready for all of the excitement and craziness that the fall of 2014 brings!
