Turns out the Council is a right joke!
All information about their proposed destruction of the library service, that they have stealthily been ruining for at least 6 years now, is available on the Save Doncaster Libraries blog, go view it and feel outraged.
But be warned, this is not a local issue, Libraries, and therefore YOUR free access to information, reading matierials, personal education and the expertise to help you use, manage, assess, choose and review information and reading materials, is under attack nationwide. Unless you want our society to become an illiterate and un-emancipated majority led by an elite few whose aim is to keep themselves privileged, you must find out what is happening in your local area. Check your local press, access online community noticeboards, review the minutes of council meetings but, ridiculously and worryingly, don’t ask your local library staff as they will have been gagged. Library staff cannot tell you what is happening to them as this may breach their ‘issue of trust’ clause in their contracts and they will be forced into disciplinary proceedings.
In this climate of fear and intimidation by the highly-paid Senior Managers of Local Councils (note, not elected members in general) those on the frontline cannot afford to stand up for what is right. We must do it for them.
