WordPress 7.0 Work in Progress

- WordPress 7.0 Gutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ project board – not yet published
Key Goals – Core Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.
During the 7.0 release cycle, we’re continuing to work on the group of accessibility tasks opened in the past several years. These tasks have had considerable work done already, but need further research to identify what work remains. (See also the closed accessibility tasks: these are completed.)
One focus during the 7.0 release cycle is improving the experience for voice control users. We’re working to resolve a long-standing issue in the media library, and making other tweaks around the admin so that the visible labels of controls will match the accessible names. The main updates expected in this release are the post list tables and the media library, and work will continue into WordPress 7.1.
Currently, the goals for 7.0 include an admin-wide design refresh, so ensuring continuity in accessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) there is also an important goal.
As always, we’re attempting to monitor and address all new features that get added to core. However, we are a small team, and any input you can give is much appreciated.
Key Goals – Editor
As the editor team considers the addition of new blocks, we’re actively testing and consulting on these new features to ensure that anything added to the editor is as accessible as possible.
Some of the blocks recently addressed include:
Blocks are removed from this list when they ship in a release, and added when they are at a stage where they are ready for accessibility testing.
