How aware are you of your body (part 1)

•July 7, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Most people don’t seem to be aware of their bodies on a day to day basis

However, if most of you were suddenly told you have to stand up and give a 15 minute talk in front of a room of strangers, I bet you will suddenly be aware of some of the following:

  • feeling nervous – butterflies in the stomach
  • dry mouth
  • sweaty feeling
  • heart rate increase
  • maybe you will be excited

So, what is going on with your body right now.  Have you thought about it?

Are you sitting straight, are you comfortable, are you scowling whilst reading this.  Are you tense, are your wrists loose over the keyboard.

If any part of your body is uncomfortable and you can alleviate it by doing something different, why dont you, chances are it wont take much to do so.

Probably because we forget to be aware of our bodies.

Does your pet stretch more than you?

Have you heard the word Pandiculation. It defines the act of stretching and yawning.

Why do pets stretch more than us

Why do pets stretch more than us

How many of you have seen your pets do this especially when waking, or after arising from a lengthy lying down session, when they will assure you they weren’t sleeping, but were pondering about their busy day….

Where is this all going?

Why don’t we all stretch more?  Not just before and after exercising, but generally throughout our day.  Not necessarily specific muscle groups, but just a glorious body stretch.  Has it become impolite to do so?  Perhaps it is the association with yawning.

So today, don’t let your pet stretch more than you.

Mixing & Matching Therapies

What sort of therapy do you expect when you book a massage from me?

From my website you can see that I offer a portfolio of therapies.  However this doesn’t mean that you have to select a specific one when you book a session.

I tend to group therapies into three different areas

  1. Helping your body work for you
  2. Pregnancy, maternity and sub-fertility
  3. Relaxation

I will be covering these in later blogs.

Your session starts as soon as you walk into the room.  I am looking at the way you are walking, the way you hold yourself, if you are looking tired, energetic.  In the consultation we will talk about how you are and how you are feeling.

If you sit at your computer all day and end up with backache, I will work, not only on your back, but your neck, and pectoral area.  Ok, so maybe that is what you expect.   However I may use sports massage techniques, reflexology and maybe even some acupressure on you to help your body.  I will also suggest some stretching exercises to help maintain the effects of the treatment.

Of course if you just want a massage, or just a reflexology session, that is what you can have.

Breathe

It always amazes me how often clients hold their breath when I am working deeper or stretching clients or even when working out adhesions.

Breathing  not only helps you relax mentally, but it also relaxes your muscles and helps you manage any discomfort better.

The other big issue with breath holding , is I subconsciously hold my breath with you, and unless you want me to pass out, please remember to breath deeply ;o)

After a lot of blood sweat – but no tears, the new look website has finally been released. www.marianchild.co.uk

So what is new?

  • You can now pay for vouchers and packages by credit card
  • Stretch of the day.  Local businesses show that you can stretch whilst you work.  If you are interested in being a “stretch model” and advertise your business, please let me know.
  • You can follow me on Social media – twitter and facebook

More will be added as time goes by.

Please take the time to look around and give me any comments, typos etc.  I am only human and do make mistakes…. but don’t tell the husband.  I tell him I am purfekt.

Thanks to all participants of the Sports Massage Demo

I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to be massaged for my Sports Massage Demonstrations.

The purpose of this event was to show some of the techniques used in a sports massage and how it differs from, what I call, Therapeutic massage.

Issues presented varied from upper and lower back aches, tight calves and hamstrings as well as other problems.

I have a photo on Facebook “marian child therapist” of a willing volunteer.

Hopefully I will get the opportunity to repeat this event later this year.

Ask me for five minutes – it could help you

My therapy room is clean and fresh and well placed for clients at the Freedom Leisure Centre in Uckfield.

Look to your left as you walk in for your next gym session or swim and you will see my door. I have a wander around the centre between clients and am always happy to have a chat.

That applies whether you would like to pass the time of day or whether there is a problem on your mind – perhaps a sudden unexplained ache or pain or something that has been niggling away in your mind for some time. Sometimes five minutes of my time can be enough to make a difference and set your mind, and body, at rest.

My room is a haven from the stresses and cares of everyday life and I have a range of therapies that can help clients with different needs, from therapeutic massage to sports massage, to use of hot stones to blissful Thai foot massage and reflexology.

I also offer pregnancy massage equally helpful for women whose bodies are changing as they prepare to be a mum and for those who cannot lie on their fronts perhaps due to injury, recent operation or purely because they are not comfortable that way.

So, I’ve got the lighting right, the room is warm, secure and welcoming, my training is top notch and best of all I know that what I do is making a difference to people’s lives.

I know that because clients have written testimonials about how they have been helped. Read them on my website at http://www.marianchild.co.uk/testimonials.html and if there comes a time when you might benefit from my help please feel free to call me.

My telephone number is 079 1234 4954, or if you prefer you could email me on info@marianchild.co.uk. More information about the treatments I offer can be found on my website at http://marianchild.co.uk.
