Mad Max (1979)

I’ve never watched a mad max film before, so i wasn’t really sure what to expect going in. I had heard that there were cars and some kind of apocalypse. And there were indeed cars and some kind of apocalypse.
Sometimes the plot seemed to try too much to be some kind of commentary on something bigger, when really this is just an action film. As an action film, it’s pretty good. Dialogue is decent, especially in the second half; it seems it took some of the actors a while to get into character. Camera work is also generally pretty good.
The plot is predictable, but there are a lot of explosions, so it kind of cancels out. Although i wasn’t keen on the bigger message stuff, it was also nice that everyone was kind of a bad person. The trouble with car-based action, though, is that it’s simply more satisfying to watch people fight with their fists. Kung-fu films figured this out. Cars are simply not as versatile.
I am planning to watch fury road at some point, as i’ve heard that that’s peak cinema. This one wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really stand out from any other action film, either.
