Tonight was my first night of tennis lessons. I loved them and can’t wait to learn more. Taryn and I are going to start practicing at 6am three times a week.

Summer Preview Weekend

April 22, 2007 at 10:02 pm | Posted in Sewing / Fashion, Uncategorized | 2 Comments

This weekend truly felt like the first glimpse of a wonderful summer. Nate planned an amazing weekend that started with the White House garden tour on Saturday. We’ve decided that we need to periodically participate in typical tourist centric activities so that we can truly take advantage of our Washington DC location. On Sunday, we packed a picnic and drove down winding small roads in central Virginia in hopes of some photo opportunities to use our brand new camera. While no studio worthy shots we taken, we were able to spot a beautiful red fox (Nate claims that it’s my cousin since it’s a redhead) and visit some close friends in Richmond.

And to top off my weekend, I was able to create my very own sewing cart. This sewing cart enables me to easy roll out most of my supplies and keeps then readily accessible and organized. However, the real perk is that I am able to roll it back into the closet when I am finished so that we can reclaim our table for meals.

Long Overdue

I used to sew quite a bit but it’s been years and I’ve resolved to get back into sewing. It’s humbling how much you forget and backtrack after suppressing a hobby for so long. 2007 will be the year I take up sewing again, starting with this dress I made last weekend. Unfortunately, we are having a miserable spring here in DC and I have not been able to wear it yet. Stay tuned though. More sewing projects to come!

Pat Pat

I’ve been married now for almost a year and it’s been wonderful. While I loved being single, this is ever better. One thing that I particularly love is that we go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 6:30am. This is much better than the 2am nights we had while dating. Living together is very convenient. However, it did take some few adjustments. In our first month of marriage, I woke up one night to Nate apologizing like crazy. I was half-asleep and quickly lost consciousness again. The next morning, I asked him why he was apologizing. Apparently he woke up and realized he was patting my face all over… not my head, but my actually face. Patting my eyes, and my mouth, and my nose, and forehead. When he suddenly became aware of what he was doing, he was embarrassed and his constant apologizing woke me up. Two nights later woke up to more patting—but this time it was my head at least.

This is a fun little Easter nest that you can make with just a few ingredients. Great for a table setting or whatever you’d like. It comes from one of my favorite cook books- Essential Mormon Celebrations by Julie Badger Jensen.

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1 cup mini marshmallows

1 cup All-Bran or Fiber One cereal

malt robin eggs

Melt butter and marshmallows. Stir and add cereal. Form nests. Add eggs.
