Goodbye Dress. Hello Skirt.

This May, I decided to use my precious dotted Swiss fabric to make this dress below for Scarlie Pants.

6688{New Look 6688, not the fabric I used- see below}

The dress turned out beautiful! I would dare say it was my favorite creation yet.  All I needed to do was insert a zipper and the heavens would have burst into song right then and there.

With no zipper and a vacation the next day, I put the dress away to finish the following week.   Then somehow, someway, I completely forgot about it until last week, when straightening my sewing corner. I am sickened that she never wore it once this summer and it will be too short in the spring.

I ended up detaching the bodice and lowered the empire waistline down to make it a full skirt.  Now, it will be plenty long enough for her gangly legs in summer 2010.  While I am still mourning the loss of the dress, I do love the skirt with all my seamstress heart.

It’s a very full skirt with lots of tulle and fabric.  You can bet she’ll be twirling in this.

I’ve been busy embellishing more little girl tops but these are going to Etsy instead of Scarlett this time.  I mean, what kind of Mormon, mother blogger would I be without an etsy shop, right? I gotta live up to these stereotypes people.

Close-ups and more photos to come….

*Baby Blue Lovely $380

If epidurals were around then, I swear I was meant to have lived in the 1950’s.  How could you not feel pretty in one of these dresses from ‘Timeless Vixen Vintage‘?  Goosebumps.

The truth is, I do need a dress for Columbia’s Fall Ball. While I don’t have $500 for one of these beauties, I do have a sewing machine and am suddenly feeling inspired.

Scarlett is currently learning the sacred art of pretend tea parties, dressing up, and twirling in circles from her older and wiser friend Rose, who just turned three.  We are happy she has such a good mentor.

I stumbled upon this little gem on Anthropologie.com.   How perfect would this be in a nursery?  At $798, it would be well worth the time to try and reproduce.  I can’t imagine it would be too hard.

I’m always intrigued by accidental photos.

Here is the photo I was trying to take.  Scarlett would not leave the house without my fedora hat on.

Wolverine

New York City is full of celebrities.  However, we rarely see them up here in the Bronx.  Like most people, they steer clear of our borough, unless they are attending a Yankees game or maybe, just maybe the Bronx Zoo.   Well, despite my location disadvantage, I did have quite the A-List Celebrity run into this week.   I just had to leave the Bronx to do so.

On Monday, some girlfriends and I drove north an hour to Silverman’s Apple Orchard in Connecticut to find HUGH JACKMAN  in our apple picking group.  And I didn’t just see Mr. Wolverine once or only from a distance.  Nope, I was within inches of him.   Do you have any idea how fun it is to be in a thick orchard and have the world’s sexiest man (besides my husband, of course) suddenly appear through the leaves, one foot from you,  not just once, but three times?  I finally understand why people love him.  He’s a looker and even taller than I imagined.  Oohhh.. and what a great accent he has. My group chatted with him a bit – he was down to earth and darling with his two kids.  I even witnessed Hugh stealing a kiss or two from his wife.

I got some shots of him but mine are not as great as I was trying to be too stealthy, as not to disrupt his family outing.  I grabbed these from http://www.celebritybabyscoop.com.
