With my trip fresh on my mind, thought I’d write up a post with tips, suggestions, costs, etc. for making a trip to akiba. I’ve been lucky to have gone quite a few times now, so I think I’ve got at least a few tidbits to share ^^; Of course, this will all be based on my own experiences – I wouldn’t be surprised if folk have better suggestions – keep yourself open to other possibilities ^_^
So yeah… no, no one died and made me the akiba expert… yet somehow I’ve managed to write up quite a novel. Read on if you want an insanely long list of things to consider ^^;
Well, somehow I made it back in one piece. Recommendation: do not get sick two days before your flight. I did, and basically spent the whole time trying to recover as quickly as possible ;_; (thanks for all the well wishes! m(_ _)m) On the bright side, I booked a hotel that was basically across the street from ueno station. i.e. I could get to akiba in about 10 minutes ^_^
Think I’ll go in chronological order, lewt post will follow in the next couple days… (not too much this time, especially by rin’s standards :P)
I guess I could’ve combined this news with the post I just made… but it kinda felt like it deserved it’s own post.
About 12 hours ago I was asked if I could go on a business trip to Japan. 6 hours ago I booked a flight. Barring any problems, I’ll be taking off within the next 15 hours.
!!!
I’ll be landing on Thursday (Japan time) and working Friday & Saturday. However I extended my trip to the next Thursday so I’ll have Sunday through Wendesday to have some vacation time (assuming my Japanese coworkers don’t pull me into the office ^^;;;). I believe it’s still tsuyu (rainy season == hot & humid orz) but… it’s Japan!
Still trying to decide who to review next (probably Teana…? mmm hiyori?) so in the meantime, more pics from my trip. Before we get to that though, just a little housekeeping…
I’m planning on messing with the layout and am curious what sort of horizontal real estate I should work with…
Alrighty, on with the show!
50+ pics… don’t want to have to do 10 more posts for my trip, so doing big chunks ^^; Probably just one more after this…
Pics of/guide through my day trip to Kamakura & Enoshima! Turn back now if you’re looking for akiba-kei shenanigans, those will resume later :P
From the Shinagawa station it was about 1000 yen and 1 hour to get to Kamakura. Really easy to trip to make with no transfers. Also, supposedly a lot cheaper if you get the special kamakura day pass which includes a round trip to Kamakura and unlimited use of local rail in the kamakura area (enoden & odakyu). I say supposedly because I got a late start that day and dashed off to the train station as fast as I could… didn’t stop to try and figure out how to buy one ^^;; Alas it woulda been worth it. The local enoden line was expensive!
Sometimes I feel like my loot posts are just cheap filler (not that that would ever stop me :P)… but regardless, if there was ever a time for a loot post, it’s now.
Today I present akiba loot!
Sadly no… no figures. In the end, given my shrinking available display space and the fact that I’ve pretty much ordered everything I really really want… I just couldn’t find anything I felt like buying. This trip got me back to my manga roots ^^; All told, probably somewhere between 7万円 and 8万円 spent on goodies (though I do have ~15000円 unaccounted for orz… did I really spend that much more on food/travel? ^^;;;). Anyhow, let’s take a closer look…
To the promised land! My flight is in less than 12 hours, I think I’m packed… have 2 days reserved for day trips… 5 days for akiba ^^;;
Wish I had gotten around to Teana or KOS-MOS before I left, but these last 3 days have been so busy. I’ve decided to take a computer along, so there’s a slight chance I might post from Tokyo… emphasis on slight ^^;
Anyhow, sorry for the lack of updates lately, and for the incoming down time as I head off… See y’all when I get back~
