Well, about me… hmmm, I’m not very good at talking about oneself but I’ll give it a go…
My name is Rachel, I live in Hertfordshire with my super happy and nerdy 13 year old boy (his words!), who, I’m ashamed to admit, has read more classics than I have; Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to name but a few. If we are going out somewhere, 9 times out of 10 he’ll take a book with him. I’m so glad he loves to read.
Without fail I read every single night, hence my blog name Night Time Reads. I have been reading since year dot and have always got a book on the go. Once, when I was 7, I was in a car accident with my mum and sister. We were all ok but I had concussion and wasn’t allowed to read for two weeks. TWO WEEKS!! Did that stop me? Nope.
During my early teen years, like most girls my age, I read all of Judy Blume’s books; some stories of which stay with me today. Then I’d say I had a slump in reading until I was about 16 when my love of horror was first ignited. I read The Rats by James Herbert; it scared the hell out of me but I loved it. Then when I was 18 I moved on to Carrie and Pet Semetary by Stephen King which I picked up in a shop in Salou, Spain.
I’ve read a lot of genres but my favourite, as are a lot of people’s, are psychological thrillers. My first one was Kiss the Girls by James Patterson. And it was from reading this that I later realised books and films are never alike. Why? WHY? Anyway, I went on to read most of his work and my love for the psychos grew from there. My favourite of which is Hannibal Lecter. I would love for Thomas Harris to write more about Lecter’s crimes.
My others interest is travelling where I have a tendency to leave my Kindle under the pillow in hotel rooms or completely forget to take it with me. For example, I got to Heathrow to travel to Vietnam and realised when having breakfast in the departure lounge that I didn’t have my Kindle with me. So I did what any sane person would do and buy a new one. It was heart-pounding stuff waiting for the useless WiFi in the lounge to work so I could register and download all of my books before take-off. I also forgot my hairbrush on that trip, but that’s another story…
