What to expect in our interview process
Your journey with Plotly starts here, and we make it count.
We know interviews can feel like a black box, so we keep our process open, honest, and human. From the very first call, you’ll know what to expect and who you’ll meet. Whether you join our team or take your next step elsewhere, we aim to ensure you leave with a positive, memorable experience.
Here’s what the candidate journey typically looks like:
Step 1
Initial chat with our recruiter
Come prepared to discuss your background, experience, and overall goals. We want to get to know you beyond what's on your resume. In addition, our recruiter will provide an overview of the company, the role as well as the next steps in the recruitment process.
Step 2
Hiring manager interview
A focused discussion with the hiring manager about your work style, problem-solving, and collaboration. We’ll explore how you approach challenges, communicate across teams, and the scope of your experience. It’s also a chance to learn about the team’s vision, priorities, and the manager’s leadership style.
Step 3
Skills-based assessment
Depending on the role, a take-home assessment might be required. We’ll share all the necessary details about this during the screening call. The assessment for any given role should not take more than a couple of hours to complete. Following your submission, our hiring team will review your work.
Step 4
Team technical interviews
In this stage, you can expect 1 or 2 technical interviews with future peers to test the depth and breadth of your technical abilities. The focus areas will be shared with you.
Step 5
Culture interview
This will be a culture interview with a member of our People Operations team.
Step 6
Offer stage
The written offer will follow a verbal offer. References and a background check will also be completed at this time.
