a boring update… July 26, 2008

If you guys would pay me, I would blog every day. I’m just sayin’. Why can’t I blog every day anyway? It’s cause everything is so stupid and boring, I feel bad subjecting you to it. “Today I got up and was tired. I went to work and tried not to fall asleep watching The Backyardigans. I went home and took a nap. I made dinner and watched tv. Damn, this computer is slow.”

Gimme some ideas of what to write about and I would.

It’s summer, which not only means that it’s blazing, ridiculously hot, but it’s time for big brother UK. I offer you a snippet: (May contain raw language, I forget if this clip does or not, and my computer does not actually play videos..yes it is that slow. Edit – there isn’t any bad language, I managed to get it to play after all.)

The two men in the video continued to argue on and off over a period of days, and the white guy was eventually removed from the house for spitting in the black guys face. Another person has been removed, a woman, for making gang threats to other housemates. It’s been delicious. We’re way behind, we’ve only watched up until about June 23 or so, (they entered the house June 5) so we’re trying to watch a couple each night to get caught up.

What else have I been doing.

We had a club breakfast last weekend, Mark was promoted to a new “color” (orange) of Knight. Some other people were Knighted too.

Five in all, I believe. Some to higher ranks, some getting Knighted for the first time. My buddy “S” was there, she and I have gotten quite close.

She’s kind of a mess personally, but she’s a hot mess, you gotta admit. I really like her a lot.  We’re buds.

There hasn’t been much going on with the club except for that. There was a ride this Thursday night but we had Emma and besides, it’s just been too damn hot. There’s been a bit of drama however, one guy got kicked out a couple weeks ago and then last week another guy was on the chopping block but apparently redeemed himself somehow. I also had an argument with someone, but we ironed it out and all’s well.

This weekend looks to be pretty uneventful. there is a Dragon Boat Festival not too far away, and we’ve gone to that a few times in years past, but it all depends on how hot it is. Personally, I would just like to go jump in a lake somewhere. (People keep telling me to do that anyway.)

I’ve been having a lot of fun at this site: www.lovelylisting.blogspot.com. They show funny pictures (hilarious) from real estate listings, and it’s updated several times a day. This one cracked me up today:

Image

Sometimes the pictures for a listing are really bad. Filthy houses, even people sleeping on the bed in some shots. Check it out.

Well, we just made some yummy iced coffee and I’m gonna go catch up on my DVR viewing. Have a nice weekend, everyone.

blogiversary and exploding eggs… March 28, 2008

I just had my 8 year blogiversary.  8 years!  What the hell has there been to write about in all that time.  I’ve only moved my blog once, from blogger to typepad, but some things have been lost along the way.  I do have most of my old posts (in the archives up there) but not everything survived.

I remember when I started, I was watching the Tech TV with Leo Laporte and he had a guest on that was talking about blogger.com, who had just came to life about 4 months prior.  I was going through a mess of a divorce and I thought it sounded like a good outlet to get my thoughts out.  I was used to keeping paper diaries (since 1972) so the writing came naturally and I turned out to really love it.  I was interviewed by the Rocky Mountain News about my blog at one time and I still have the article.  I got a few readers here and there and that became the best part.

So happy 8th anniversary, blog.

Anypoodle…

I had a carton of eggs, ya see.

They were about to expire.

So I thought I would make some egg salad, maybe even go crazy and make a few deviled (that doesn’t look right but spellchecker says it is) eggs.

I put the water on to boil, added the eggs and walked away.

And fell asleep for TWO HOURS.

Do you have any idea what happens to boiling eggs after two hours?

Eggs3

They explode, oh yes they do.  We found eggs all over the counters, in the living room, dining room..and..

Eggs

on the ceiling.

Mark was in his office upstairs with the door closed and came out cause he smelled "something".  He said the house was full of smoke and there were eggs everywhere.  He came and got me up (not in a "wake up, darling" sorta way, mind you) and we set about airing out the house and cleaning up eggs.  I seriously could have burnt the house down.  Idiot.

My mom has been looking for a salad spinner.  I saw one at the thrift store today and called her to see if she wanted me to get it.  Keep in mind she claims she cannot hear me on the phone because my voice is so low.  I guess the tv volume at her house is on as high as it will go because they talk too low too.

"Are you still looking for a salad spinner?"
"A what?"
"A salad spinner"
"A salsa bender?"
"No a salad spinner!"
"spell it."
"S-A-L-A-D"
"That doesn’t spell anything"
"Like when we go to Applebees and get a salad!!"
"salad?"
"Yes, a salad spinner! God!"

So anyway, she eventually said yes, and I bought and it turned out to be the wrong kind, of course.  It was the kind with the handle that you turn and not the button that you push.

I shoulda got a salsa bender instead.

some people just don’t like salad I guess… March 1, 2007

It’s hard for me to post because my keyboard is messed up.  It takes me 5 minutes to post and 15 minutes to correct the mess.

I  had a good week at work.  The baby was happy and funny, but it’s getting a bit harder to keep him away from mom’s office.  She works with the door closed but it’s a glass door, so sometimes he just wants to go over there and bang on it to get her attention for some reason or another.  He’s so easy to watch tho, he’s developed a fun sense of humor and he makes me laugh all the time.

Most of the time we just play or read (he LOVES books), but once a day we turn to my newest tv crush.  No it’s not a soap opera star, it’s Joe, the host of Blues Clues.

Lrg_dvbctkj

Actually his name is Donovan Patton and he’s a hottie.  Not so much in his Blues Clues garb, but ruffle up his hair and put him in a sexy black t-shirt, and..yumm.

Donovan_patton

I know, he looks 17 but he’s actually 29, well above legal age.  I might just write him a letter and see if he pulls it out of the purple mailbox and reads it on the show. "We just got a letter, we just got a letter, we just got a letter, I wonder who it’s from?"

("F" word ahead Mandy…)

Tonight Katie and I went downtown to help Cindi and some of her coworkers serve dinner at a homeless mission.  I wasn’t altogether looking forward to it but it turned out to be really fun and something we want to do again very soon.  The work was effortless and kinda fun but what really made it great were the people.  The people that came to eat were very grateful and nice, and a lot of them were really funny.  Some were a bit grouchy, but who could blame them really?  It’s 23 degrees outside, we’ve had snow on the ground for close to 70 days and all they’re getting from us is some mac and cheese, gray vegetables, cheese and crackers and some salad.  One guy said "No I don’t want any salad, if I wanted salad I would have salad you fuckin’ people."  See, a bit grouchy.

The other volunteers were pretty fun too.  My sister’s friend Rose is a lot of fun and their friend mike seemed silly enough.  There were a a couple of volunteers there we didn’t know, and they weren’t near as cool as us.  Katie hit it off with one of the other workers, a guy who is living in a sober resident facility.  They didn’t exchange numbers or anything, but I know she’ll be looking to see if he’s there if we go again.  I’m going to call the place tomorrow and see how often they will let us come.

I’m off tomorrow but have a few errands to run.  I’m looking forward to having at least part of the day to myself.

Hope you all are faring ok with all the weird weather going on out east and down south.

Later gators.

I’m hot.  Like it’s so hot in here I’m sweating..what the hell is that about?  It should be snowing here next week.

I am reading reading reading blogs but I just have had no desire to write.  I feel like I have nothing to say.

Guanella_1
We didn’t do anything on our anniversary, but are going to "celebrate" tomorrow.  Neither one of us were too keen on going out to a fancy dinner or spending money on gifts.  We decided to take the whole day tomorrow taking a drive to Guanella Pass (about an hour away) and packing a lunch.  We talked about taking the bike instead of driving but Mark isn’t quite comfortable with me on the back, cause he’s never riden with a rider, except Emma and she weighs like, nothing.  I’m sure by next spring we’ll be going here there and everywhere on it but for now, we’re just going to drive.  We’re just going to take pictures, hang out – and enjoy each other’s company.  Mark offered to go to the movies in the evening – which is huge for him cause he hates the theater, but knows I love it…but I said the drive was enough.  Should be fun.  I hope there’s not as much snow there as this picture shows or we’ll be eating our picnic in the car!

Other than that it’s just work, eat, sleep and all the great fall shows.  Are you loving Ugly Betty?

There’s a few Fly Lady events coming up that sound fun.   A corn maze, and then in November, a barn dance.  In December we are going to try and go away for the weekend again.  Sounds good to me.

I will try to be back with  more frequency, but for now that’s all I got.

Tuesday musings… August 22, 2006

Gah, where do the days go?  Work, drive, cook, tv, sleep, lather rinse repeat.

I have a raging headache but am not due to go take care of the baby until 12:30 so hopefully I can shake it before then.  He’s been a bit of a fussbudget lately, mostly just going through the "I can’t see you therefore I cry" stage.  He’s only happy when he’s on my hip so I am trying to make sure I don’t pick him up when he’s unhappy, but just try to distract him into playing on his own.  He’s started sorta kinda crawling a couple weeks ago and in the last couple of days he’s put it all together and is officially on the move.  Whee!

I’m watching the extradition hearing for John Mark Karr, the alleged JonBenet killer.  I’m just not sure about all of this.  I know that they wouldn’t go to the time and trouble to bring him here unless there was a pretty good case against him, but things just aren’t falling into place like I think they should.  The analysis going on on the news right now is extremely doubtful as to whether he is really the one.  The CBI hasn’t even been asked to compare any DNA which folks in the know say should have been done before they even gave this guy the time of day.  I dunno..time will tell.  Aside from all of that, he’s sure weird looking, isn’t he?  His huge head looks superimposed on his tiny little frame, and his expressions are the flattest I’ve ever seen, like a mannequin.

We went to the planetarium on Sunday, and it was so-so.  I think I would have enjoyed an actual program rather than just music and lasers, so we will probably try to go back when they change the show.  It was a free day at the museum (they have about 5 of those a year) so the rest of the museum and the parking lot was heaving.  We looked around a bit afterwards but there was just too many people, and way too many strollers.  I swear it was like a bumper car ride in there, you could hardly move around because of the massive amounts of strollers.  Gah!  Plus, a lot of people brought little little kids (hence the strollers) and they just aren’t into what they have there – it’s way over their heads and they just end up being miserable.

School started today, not a moment too soon.  Emma finally has a new teacher this year (having had the same teacher for the past 3 years) so that could be good, or it could be bad.  Good because I didnt agree with a lot of how her old teacher ran her classroom, but bad because this gives Emma a whole new opportunity to convince someone new that she cant do this or that.  At least her old teacher didn’t buy into that and held her accountable for reasonable expectations.  It will just take a few weeks to "train" her new teacher not to fall for all of that.  Im just glad Emma will have something else to occupy her days rather than computer games and Animal Planet.

There was a great show on HBO last night called "When The Levees Broke".  It is a two part film by Spike Lee, very reminiscent of something Michael Moore might do.  It was really good, very provocative and sometimes very sad.  They talked to the son of the woman who died in the wheelchair and how it came about that he had to just leave her there outside the Superdome.  They showed some footage of General Honore who came in to take control after Brownie was canned.  Someone should elect this guy to the presidency, lemme tell ya.  Part two airs tonight, I’ve already got it set to pvr.  If you have HBO, it will be on On Demand this month, check it out.

Well, time to get ready for work, the baby had a dr.’s appointment today and got his 6month shots, so hopefully he won’t be too fussy.  I think I will only be there a couple of hours today, so even if he’s a bear it will be short lived..for me at least.
