[Otome Game] Black Wolves Saga: My thoughts about Fiona in the twin’s route

Since I’ve been talking so much about Sugita lately, let’s talk about Black Wolves Saga’s heroine for a change 8D Yay. This post is a result of a discussion between me and biscuit after I played through the twins’ routes, as well as me thinking way too much about the games I play (and everything in general). It focuses mainly on that one choice that takes Fiona back to the castle, so you can see the “exciting” routes the creators prepared for the cats, lol. Naturally, it will have lots of spoilers and, also naturally, it requires previous knowledge about the game, and preferably having gone through the twins’ routes (one or both). If you want a good and to-the-point overview of the game, biscuit made a post about it here.

From what I saw/heard, some people seemed to either say that Fiona’s choice to go back to the castle was stupid and completely lacking common sense or they labeled the choice as a plot device; or some tried to explain Fiona’s actions by saying that she tried to have hope in the midst of all the despair. Let’s see how all these fair from the game’s perspective.

Ultimately, what I’m trying to do here is show that Fiona’s character is well thought-out and that she isn’t just your standard “stupid and lame” otome game heroine. Also, I think the game’s plot is good enough to explain itself without resulting to some convoluted and make-believe explanations. Once again, and I cannot stress this enough, this is my own interpretation of things.

So, once again, there will be SPOILERS. Don’t read past this point unless you have played the game or don’t mind spoilers (although this may be a bit hard to understand without knowing what happened, because I don’t go into details).

[Seiyuu] Sasuga Sugita no Corner 4

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing fine! It’s this time of the month (???) already, so here’s another Sasuga Sugita no Corner! *fanfares* I can’t believe it’s already the 4th one xD Sure, it’s not much, but I’m amazed at myself that I managed to keep this up long enough to get to nr 4, however long it took. I have a tendency to get distracted easily, and my interests change drastically. I’m that type of person who can only 100% concentrate on one thing at a time… ;w; That said, my interest in Sugita somehow manages to resist this personality trait of mine, and he’s regularly coming back to remind me about himself xD
I’m slowly catching up with Anigera, so I hope I can write these posts more often now (as long as I won’t forget to take notes, lol). I could write a book using excerpts from Anigera alone, seriously. This radio is so full of references and random talk, it’s an absolute must for a Sugita fan. After all, it’s a radio where Sugita is free to talk about anything he wants xD I’m really glad it became so popular it can continue to this day without problems~

[Otome Game] Starry Sky short story: Before the next Spring comes…

This is another thing I started working on long ago (last year I think), but then a lot of things happened and I forgot about it. Since I was in the mood for translation, I decided to go back to it and finally get it done xD
It’s a short story that was published in Dengeki Girl’s Style, written from Kanata’s point of view, and when I read it I thought it’s cute. It had a double appeal for me, since I’m also a Kanata fan xD

I couldn’t help thinking about Neo Armstrong Cannon whenever I wrote the word “snowball” haha ^^;; *shot* Way to spoil the mood lol (Gintama messed up my brain)

Despite it being short, it actually took effort and time, so please don’t post it anywhere without my permission first, thank you. I’m also sorry for all the possible awkward-sounding phrases m(__)m

Cast:
Nanami Kanata

[Merchandise] Spring loot desu

GPOY of the day: I can’t resist the charm that is “limited edition” either ww.

Image

These are some merchandise I collected over this spring! Gintama Chibi-kyun figures, Elkrone no Atelier ~Dear for Otomate~, Black Wolves Saga –Bloody Nightmare-, and Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side Art Galleries.

Image

My goal is to eventually collect all the Banpresto chibi-kyun figures for Gintama, since the quality is great (maybe even better than Petit Chara Land??) and I love how each figure will remind you of a certain moment. I definitely wanted the Gintoki ones from the arcade prize set, but I didn’t really want the lottery ones until I saw that the secret was Madao!! ;o; Doesn’t he look so adorable in his sweet home ww? I’m super looking forward to the lottery prizes for summer season!!

Well, the rest of the loot is obviously otome stuff. I am not really good at taking pictures, so please excuse the quality too. If you see blurry spots, they are due to my inability to focus the camera. \o/

[Otome Game Log] Fashion in Tokimeki Memorial GS3

Image

One of the features that I love to explore in TMGS3 is the dress-up part because they made a lot of cute items that can be mixed and matched to create different styles. Each main guy has a style that they love and a style that they hate, but it is NOT true that you have to wear only what they like! In fact, it is possible to get them to love a different style besides their favorite one.

[Otome Game Log] Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side Premium 3rd Story

Image

Title: Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side Premium 3rd Story
Company: Konami
Platform: PSP
Release Date: March 15, 2012
Rating: 12+
Cast: Sakurai Ruka (Sugita Tomokazu), Sakurai Kouichi (Suwabe Junichi), Fujiyama Arashi (Miyashita Eiji), Niina Junpei (Kisaichi Atsushi), Kondou IsaoKonno Tamao (Chiba Susumu), Shitara Seiji (Tachibana Shinnosuke), etc.

Silvra and I are currently stuck in Tokimemo world. It seems I am still very addicted to this game after replaying the DS version released 2 years ago several times…I wanted to understand the gameplay a bit more before playing my favorite character Ruka, but I ended up calling him constantly for dates, so I am doing his route now! XD

A full guide for this game is not out yet, so I’m just trying different functions and I also received a lot of hints from other people. These are my impressions so far in playing Ruka’s route. Things may be different for other characters, such as how reactive they are to you in normal state. I mean Ruka is generally quite approachable, but Silvra is playing Arashi’s route and she said Arashi won’t even let you get close to him. XD He probably thinks you’ll perform a kinnukuman buster.

[Otome Game] Shinigami to Shoujo: Prologue

Image

Blue sky.
It is a shade of blue that paints the sky for an instant right after the sun sets and right before the night comes.
It is a very, very deep blue.
Under the sky of such color, there stood a god of death.
“Are you not afraid of me?”
God of death thought weird of the traveller standing in front of him without hiding.
“If you’re a god of death, will you take my life right here and now?”
“If I’m a god of death, then I will surely take your life.”
“That is troubling. If you do so, then my travel will end here.”
The travelling girl told the god of death so.
“Why do you travel?”
The girl answered:
“I’m looking for the most beautiful word in the world.”
“Beautiful word, do you mean something like in a poem?”
“What I’m looking for is far simpler than that.”
“Is it love, then?”
“No.” The girl shakes her head to the god of death’s question.
“Love? Peace? Justice? That’s not it. None of these words ring in my heart. The word I’m looking for is one and only, is absolute and is eternal. A beautiful word that whole world accepts, and that everyone can relate to.”
“You’re saying that something like that exists in this world?”
“I don’t know. That is why I’m looking for it. I will travel to every single part of the world, until I find my answer.”

[Otome Game] Shinigami to Shoujo: Introduction

Image

Title: “Shinigami to Shoujo”
Company: Takuyo
Release Date: 28.07.2011
Platform: PSP
Rating: Age 12+
Genre:  “a story of illusions” adventure
Cast: Ueda Kana (the heroine), Canna Nobutoshi (Ao), Kawashima Tokuyoshi (Toono Tooya), Suzuki Tatsuhisa (Hinase Mitsuru), Chiba Susumu (Kirishima Nanaki), Nojima Kenji (Chiyo), Sanpei Yuuko (Natsume Yuuki), Nonoka Ai (Miyazawa Kaho) etc.

Recently I started playing Shinigami to Shoujo, a game I’ve been wanting to play for some time now, but didn’t have time/was too distracted with other things to do it earlier. I love games with unique stories, and this one is no exception. I’m loving it so far <333 I like it so much, that I even decided to write about it xD I can’t believe I’m writing a non-Sugita post
The game is split up into chapters. They have a certain theme that is represented by a book. Everything that happens inside a given chapter reflects the contents of that chapter’s book to a certain extent (sometimes it’ll be mainly the theme, sometimes everything will be almost exactly like in the book). There is a book that overlaps with all of the chapters – we’re introduced to it in the prologue, and it’s the title’s “God of Death and a Girl”. In this post I will be covering the game’s prologue and write my thoughts about the game in general and its characters (they’re at the end of this post, so those of you who have already played the game can start from there xD).

To be honest, I’m not really sure where I’m going with this. At first I intended to write a short summary to each chapter followed by my thoughts about the stories included in them. However, as I went along with this it turned into something quite different. This post, for example, is a description of what’s going on, scene by scene. I imagine that chapters 1 to 3 won’t look like this though (I already have them written out roughly, but I’m adding more details to them). I (probably) will be summarizing only the main stories and what the characters involved think about them. I will mention the more important scenes that give us some insight into the characters and I will also include my thoughts about the chapter. My thoughts will be there just for reference, and they are in no way absolute. The game allows us to answer many of the more abstract questions it poses by ourselves, and so they will differ from person to person. I’m also still playing the game, so I don’t intend to answer any of the main plot-related questions, not yet anyway. I intend to write only what was revealed to the player in a given chapter, leaving all the more important questions about the characters for their individual routes and for when they’re actually talked about in the game. Sometimes I will also include random translations and describe certain scenes in much detail, usually whenever I feel that something is important or simply when I like a scene or the way characters are thinking in (most likely, I will write a LOT about Ao, I seem to be unable to stop talking whenever he’s involved haha /kicked). At least that’s the plan for now… I’m not sure how this will turn out in the end, or how far can I keep it up (I do hope I can finish this project, and I really want to do it, because I think it’s an amazing game). Wish me luck!

That said, I intend to write something that can be read both by people who already played through the game, as well as those who would like to play it but can’t due to one reason or another.

Everything written in italics includes my thoughts or additional information about the scene/character, while text in bold indicates the things that I thought are interesting or even just simply  cool-sounding (don’t try reading too much into them xD).

I hope you’ll enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing this!

Characters and places introduced in the prologue:

Image
遠野紗夜 (Toono Sayo) – heroine’s default name (it’s possible to change her first name only); written with kanji for “distant”, “field”, “silk gauze” and “night”. Taking the meaning straight from the kanji doesn’t really give us anything coherent, but if read as “too-no sayo”, it gives us “distant evening”. I think it’s a very fitting name for this game’s heroine.

Image
遠野十夜 (Toono Tooya) – surname is the same as in Sayo’s case, kanji for the name are “ten” and “night”. Read as “too-no tooya” would give us “distant ten nights”. He is the heroine’s older brother; a writer. There is a city in Japan called Toono, and a book related to it called “Toono stories” (about Japanese folklore), written by Yanigata Kunio.

Image
宮沢夏帆 (Miyazawa Kaho) – written with “princess/palace”, “swamp”, “summer” and “sail”. Heroine’s best friend and classmate.
There was a Japanese writer named Miyazawa Kenji.

Image 夏目悠希 (Natsume Yuuki) – written with kanji for “summer”, “eye”, “permanence/distant” and “hope”. Heroine’s classmate; he seems to hate her for some reason.
There was a Japanese writer named Natsume Souseki. The story featured in chapter 3 is a play on his famous story “I Am a Cat”.

Image
日生光 (Hinase Mitsuru) – written “day”, “life” and “light”. He is year the heroine’s upperclassman; he says he’s in love with her.
The only thing I can think of in relation to his name is a city in Japan called Hinase. Any other suggestions are welcome!

Image

(Ao) – it means “blue”. He has no memories and calls himself a “shinigami”.

鳴鐘 (Narikane) – the name of the city this story takes place in. It means “ringing bell”. There is an actual word written this way, but read “nuishou”, it means “to ring a bell in a buddhist temple”.

[Otome Game Review] Okashi na Shima no Peter Pan ~Sweet Never Land~

Image

Title: Okashi na Shima no Peter Pan ~Sweet Never Land~
Company:
Quinrose
Release Date:
October 6, 2011
Platform:
PSP
Rating:
Age 15+
Genre:
Fantasy, Psychological, Humour
Cast:
Ishida Akira (Peter Pan), Yusa Kouji (John Darling), Tachibana Shinnosuke (Michael Darling), Okiayu Ryoutarou (James Hook), Miki Shinichirou (Scissor Gavialwatch), Sugiyama Noriaki (Tink Bell), Shitaya Noriko (Tinker Bell)

Story
A sweets contest is being held on the Sweets Island of Neverland, and three children from the “boring world” will be chosen as judges for the contest. Wendy Darling notices a strange boy wandering in town and asks if he is lost. Upon hearing this, the boy bursts into a laughing fit and he eventually introduces himself as Peter Pan. He is very interested in Wendy and wants her to become one of his special followers besides the lost boys. On that night he forcefully takes Wendy and her two younger stepbrothers, John and Michael, to Neverland. In order to return to their own world, they must choose a winner for the sweets contest. This is not as easy as it sounds because Wendy refuses to eat sweets.

Overall Impressions
When this game was first announced, I was really excited that Fujimaru Mamenosuke was doing the character design. I lost interest in the game when the release was delayed and the console was changed to PSP. I recently picked up this game out of curiosity, and I am really glad I gave it a chance! Unlike previous Quinrose games, this is a standard visual novel with easy gameplay. The fantasy setting is captivating and the characters are hilarious. I love the setting because sweets are everywhere, cookies and candies can even grow from trees. The romance is mature and the scenes are suggestive without crossing the R18 line.

Despite outward appearances, Neverland also holds a dark secret which will be revealed in the truth end. The truth end can only be played after you complete the good or best ends for Peter, Hook, Scissor (play these routes in any order you like), and Tink (this route has the most plot spoilers, so I recommend doing it last). John and Michael’s routes can be played in any order as well. The truth end is an extension of Peter’s ending. Please be aware that this review may have minor spoilers.
