Powers we wish we can steal from the big and small screens

The movie Jumper talks about a smart kid with a tough life and discovering that he has the ability to teleport and leaves his own home to search for the man he blames for the death of his mother. It made me realize and think of this one thing. Wouldn’t it be fun to have powers?

God designed our lives to be almost flawless. Being flawless doesn’t mean that you won’t have any problems or trials. Being flawless is about enjoying our life here on this temporary world while we live. Just think, if you have superpowers, you will be bored after a while because you can already do anything you wanted to but, who said anything about day dreaming being bad? Here are some awesome powers to have.

1. Invisibility abilities – If you are a guy, you might find this power a tad bit more useful than the others. Have you watched hollow man? Those are the things you can actually do. Have you imagined how fun it would be? Board planes, cruises, go around the world. All the money you can have, Money-All-You-Can buffet!

2. Mind Powers – Have you heard people say that if you are in a hot place and you think about cold things, you won’t feel hot anymore? That is mind over matter. Telekinesis is somewhat the same. It is the power of the mind over to control the matter.

https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b9/Micah_Sanders_Season_2.jpgA good example of mind power is Micah Sanders from the hit TV Series, Heroes. He has a power called “Technopathy”, this is another kind of Telekinesis. “Technopathy” communicates with machines and electronics to follow your commands.

https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/Matt_Parkman_Season_2.jpgMatt Parkman, also from Heroes TV series has a different kind of mind power. He has “Telepathy”. It means that, he can sense the thoughts of other people and has the power to control the mind of another human being.

3. Time Travel – This is one sick ability to gain! Go back and forth in time. I would like to first, travel back in time. Be a child once again. You could do various dumb stuffs you did while you were young. Way back in time, my friend had a funeral for a lizard he accidentally killed. How would that sound if you did that now?

Going back to the future, you might want to stop off those “great” junior high memories you had like, the Prom night. It would be also great to go forth in the future. You can see what will happen next time, so you can change what you need to change right now. Oh, before you go back to the present, check out your wife. If she irritates the hell out of you, you know what to do now. Just make sure to check out the next one too and choose the best!

Being powerless now is different from having powers later. Of course, you will first start off with, “I will change the world and make it a better place by…” Humans are just humans. Our desires tends to be more greedy, and that will make us dangerous by having special powers. Lets say you have special powers now, can you say you will only use it for good?

Movies for your first-ever date

There’s many a list of “Top Romantic Comedies” or “Top Date Movies” but no one ever said they all had to be chick-flicks.  Here are a couple of titles you could pop in your DVD player when you’re trying to set a mood, girl OR dude.

Nightmare before Christmas – A true classic.  It has Burton’s eccentricities, while keeping the romance in there.  Though it’s a seasonal flick, the franchise is receiving a massive resurrection in terms of merchandise.  If you’re into dark sorrowful lyrics, then this one’s for you, and the underlying message of hope and dark romanticism.

True Romance – Know that song by Alicia Keys?  Wreckless Love?  The “off-the-wall-won’t-stop-‘til-i-get-enough” kind of love?  This movie’s sort of like that, with violence, drugs, Christian Slater and an imaginary Elvis.  Penned by Quentin Tarantino way back when he was starting, this just demonstrates a love so addicting, it can be destructive.  (It’s a real treat, believe me!)

There’s Something About Mary – There’s a reason why this Farrelly brothers movie is a classic.  No, it’s not that infamous “hairgel” scene, zipper scene, or any of the funny scenes packed into this movie.  It’s the highschool romance that prevails in the end.  If you or your sweety still have a lingering love affair for things nostalgic or highschool, (and laughs!) this is just the way to go.

Almost Famous – This is multi-layered.  Not only does it feature a small romance with Kate Hudson, it also shows a love for music and the youth we’ll never get to relive again.  (Okay, so most of Cameron Crowe’s movies are date movies, Say Anything, Jerry Maguire, anyone?  No, no, not Vanilla Sky)

Cinema Paradiso
– This Italian film, which was recommended to me by a close girl friend, has so much “awwww” moments that, by the end, if you aren’t affected, you are a stone that maybe deserves no love at all!

6 Alternative Endings to I am Legend

Have you seen the movie I am Legend which stars Will Smith? How many of you were satisfied with how it ended?

Well…. Definitely, after watching one man living alone with his dog and witnessing how he lived his daily life, the ending was quite anti-climactic and highly melodramatic as far as I am concerned.

Now there is a problem with this kind of ending. It assumes that the human-turned-monster has gotten in touch with its human side again and was able to identify his female monster partner and feel emotions upon seeing the female monster. If they wanted this kind of ending then the humanness of the monsters should have been progressively developed in the movie.

There were hints that the monsters were developing a sense of intelligence, like the trap that they set up, the ability to prowl at the edges of sunlight, etc. But this was not apparent enough to make that kind of ending. The jump would have been too

Moreover, if the monster was that cognizant, shouldn’t he have asked for the treatment as well instead of just taking the female monster away?

On the other hand, the current ending has its own problems, in my opinion. As mentioned earlier it is too melodramatic in a heroic kind of sense. I do not also see the logic as to why he had to blow himself up with all the monsters. Wouldn’t it have been better if he just stayed alive as he was the source of the anti-bodies in the first place?

So here goes a list of alternate endings to the movie I am Legend:

Following the current ending of the movie –

1. Instead of blowing himself up with the grenade, he should have just thrown the grenade into the mob of monsters. Being an intelligent and scientific man, he should have prepared a plan in case his lab was infiltrated by monsters. He had enough time in his hands to do this. If he did this he could have:

2. Installed UV lights in his lab so that if it got infiltrated he would just switch it on from that small area that he was in and burn the living daylights out of those monsters.

3. Installed explosives that will either provide enough sunlight come day while he hides in that small nook.

4. Armored his small nook and installed explosives to nuke the damn things.

5. Placed an arsenal in that lab as he knew from the start that that is his last stand.

6. Build a shoot in his lab that will lead him to the Bat Cave.

You may believe that some of my suggestions are downright mad, but hey, I stayed there for 2 hours watching this man talk to himself and chat up a mannequin for God’s sake, the least the producers could do is give me a bit of action. Is that so hard to do?

Okay, what I want to know now is what you think the best alternate ending would be for I am Legend. I am going to put a challenge in Ibeatyou.com and I hope you could come and either vote or suggest your own ending. I will bet though that the 6th ending will win this game. (tongue in cheek)
