“When you look at our ever-present surveillance state and the ways in which people are being retaliated against and identified, I think that this is exactly what they (U.S. founding fathers) wouldn't have wanted,” EFF’s Saira Hussain told NPR. https://lnkd.in/eh9Dz6WY

Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) reposted this
I spoke with Cindy Cohn, executive director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), ahead of the release of her new book, Privacy's Defender: My Thirty-Year Fight Against Digital Surveillance (The MIT Press, March 10). Over thirty years of fighting for encryption, taking on the NSA, battling FBI gag orders, and now confronting the surveillance overreach of the Trump administration, Cindy has been in the room for many defining battles at the intersection of technology and civil liberties. A few things from our conversation: She's explicit about what she's doing with this book: recruiting. Not just the next generation of digital rights lawyers, but technologists, activists, artists — anyone who wants to find their corner of the fight for democracy and human rights. And she talks about what sustains her over the long haul. Music, it turns out, has been a through-line in her life and career — from her early days to the choir of people she's built around her over three decades. That type of community, she says, is how you avoid burning out on the kind of work that never really ends. With everything happening right now — AI, DOGE, ICE, the erosion of data protections, the profound challenges to civil rights and rule of law — this felt like exactly the right moment for this conversation.
