The Girl with a Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean

What a clever book.

The way it plays with timelines and perspectives keeps changing how you see everything. Also, there were a few proper "HA" moments.

And as someone who writes, I loved how much it plays with the craft itself to tell the story.

Also, ghost cats!

Epic Games Store will officially support Linux, Epic confirms videocardz.com

Epic Games is working on official Linux support for the Epic Games Store. An Epic staff member confirmed that Linux support is coming “soon,” although it will not be part of the next preview release.

The confirmation came during an AMA on the official Epic Games Store community Discord. According to Epic staff member @onepercentnachos, supporting Linux requires more work than simply producing a native Linux build, suggesting that Epic is preparing broader platform integration rather than only porting the launcher.

Big if true. Huge if that "soon" is actually soon!

Leak reveals a Zelda-themed Switch 2 and Pro Controller hanafuda.report

Both the console and the new controller feature Triforce motifs, with green and gold accents. The Pro Controller also features the Hylian Crest at its center.

I do not need a second Switch 2 and another Pro 2 controller.

Manuel in a recent blogpost:

I also don’t consider myself a writer. Which is funny because when I get asked to describe what I do the most succinct definition I often use is “writer of code and words” since that is what I spend my time doing in front of this screen. But reflecting on the use of these words made me wonder what even is this thing I’m doing here on this site.

I find this intriguing, because I feel the same. I don't see myself as a writer. Nor a blogger. Nor a coder, project manager, photographer, data analyst, reader, or whatever other label you can think of.

Instead, I am someone who writes, and blogs, and takes pictures, and manages projects, and goes to the gym, and reads, and so on. I might sometimes use a label because it is easier for people to grasp, but I don't feel like any of these terms is my identity.

I've recently started watching movies about ordinary life. They are a mix of slow cinema and slice-of-life.

If you have the attention span of a TikToker, you will hate them. Nothing explodes. No one saves the universe. In fact, plot-wise, nothing really happens.

But I love them.

One of these movies was Paterson.

Spoiler territory, stop reading if you want to watch the movie.

What I liked about it is that Paterson could easily call himself a poet. But he doesn't. He is someone who writes poetry.

His wife, Laura, is almost the opposite. She is constantly trying on new identities and imagining new versions of herself. Neither approach is presented as wrong, and both seem perfectly happy living the way they do.

But I feel much closer to Paterson.

Maybe that is also why labels have never felt particularly useful to me. My interests are eclectic, but I don't need every interest to become something I am.

Has everyone recently started vibe-coding their personal websites?

The number of blogs in my RSS feed that have suddenly started spamming dozens of old posts all at once is getting a little suspicious.

But hey, coding is a solved problem now, right?

When We Cease to Understand the World by Benjamín Labatut

What a strange book. The further it goes, the more this "non-fiction" book starts making things up, slowly turning into fiction.

I guess that's what happens when we cease to understand the world?

The Treasure Hunters Club by Tom Ryan

This book was not it. Mediocre writing (with one mistake that I just couldn't forget), a cheap twist, and while I wanted to know how the story ended (worth .25 of a star), it was just not that good. Meh!

(But apparently a sequel is coming later this year, and I guess I'll end up reading that one anyway.)

The Poet Empress by Shen Tao

I originally picked this book because of its beautiful cover. I did not expect it to be the best book I read this year.

What a story! What character development. What a world.

Imma call my therapist now.
