Embarcadero += Whole Tomato

Idera, Inc., parent company of global B2B software productivity brands, today announced the acquisition of Whole Tomato, the developer of the Visual Assist productivity tool for C++ developers in Visual Studio. Whole Tomato will join Idera, Inc.’s best-in-class Developer Tools businesses, including Embarcadero and Sencha.

Somewhere there, a sad ghost of Borland lives on.

Bjarne Stroustrup awarded 2017 Faraday Medal

Congratulations!

Columbia University:

For significant contributions to the history of computing, in particular pioneering the C++ programming language, Bjarne Stroustrup has been named the recipient of the 2017 Faraday Medal, the most prestigious award to an individual made by the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

C++17 Features And STL Fixes In VS 2017 15.3 by STL
- The STL now uses C++14 constexpr unconditionally, instead of conditionally-defined macros.
- The STL now uses alias templates internally.
- The STL now uses std::move() internally, instead of stylistically misusing std::forward().
- The STL no longer marks functions as __declspec(dllimport). Modern linker technology no longer requires this (???)
