Export specific content

Last reviewed on December 1, 2025

You can export specific content, like just your pages, posts, or feedback, from your WordPress.com site. In this guide, you will learn how to export specific content.

Export specific content

Instead of exporting your entire website, you can choose to export specific content like pages, posts, or feedback.

To export specific content, follow these steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Tools → Export.
  3. Select the radio button next to the specific content you want to download:
    • Posts: export all posts, or filter by author, status, post creation date, and category.
    • Pages: export all pages, or filter by author, status, and creation date.
    • Feedback: export all responses received through contact forms.
The Posts option on the Export page selected, with drop-down menus to filter by categories, authors, create date, and status.
  1. Wait a few moments for the export to process. The download will begin automatically.
    • If the content contains more than 1000 posts, the export will be broken up into multiple XML files sent to your email in a single .zip file. When importing this into another site, you’ll need to import each of the .xml files individually.

After the export

You can now import your file to the new site. If you’re importing to another WordPress.com site, you can follow the steps to import a site’s content.

Exporting specific content types will not migrate your media files. Instead, the media will be “hot linked” to the original files. If the original site is deleted or made private, the media will disappear from the new site.

If you plan to include media with specific content or delete your site after exporting, export the media library separately. Follow the steps in this guide to import both specific content and the media library to your new site.

Export errors

If the content you are exporting creates a large file, you may get an error when you try to create the export. To resolve this issue:

  1. Deactivate any plugins on your site (which are not included in the export file anyway.)
  2. Delete any spam or pending comments.
  3. Delete any pages or posts you would rather not export.
  4. Filter the content by author, create date, status, or category to create smaller export files.
