Improve a page or post with AI

Within the WordPress editor, you can access tools for writing enhancement, title optimization, image generation, and more. This guide will walk you through the steps to enable and use these powerful AI features on your WordPress.com website.

About the AI assistant

The AI assistant, powered by Jetpack AI, helps you save time writing with effortless content crafting, tone adjustment, title generation, grammar checks, translation, and more.

The AI Assistant is included with all our paid plans. Free plan sites come with 20 free requests, and you can purchase a subscription to the AI Assistant on the free plan by taking these steps:

  1. Edit any post or page on your website.
  2. Click the Jetpack icon in the upper-right corner (it looks like a lightning bolt inside a green circle).
  3. Click on the “AI Assistant” section.
  4. Scroll down and click the “Upgrade” button.
  5. Complete your purchase on the Checkout screen.

Enable writing assistance

Take the following steps to enable an editing tool inside the WordPress editor to improve your writing with AI:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Pages or Posts and edit any existing piece of content (or create a new one).
  3. In the upper-right corner of the editing screen, click the Jetpack icon (it looks like a green circle with a lightning bolt inside).
  4. Click on “Improve with AI” to expand those options:

  1. Under “Write Brief”, click the “Show issues & suggestions” toggle button. Optionally, tick or untick the boxes for:
    • Spelling mistakes: highlight common misspellings.
    • Complex words: highlight complex words and get suggestions for simpler alternatives, keeping your writing clear and direct. 
    • Long sentences: highlight long-winded sentences so you can break them down and make them easier to read.
    • Unconfident words: highlight words that sound uncertain, like “possibly,” “might,” or “could” so you can replace them with more assertive alternatives to make your point confidently.
  2. Words in your writing will now be underlined. You can hover your mouse over any underline to learn why it was underlined, and click the “Suggest” button to ask AI to improve the text:

The tool will also measure the readability of your text, assigning a reading grade score. The lower the number, the better. Our research shows you should aim for a score of 8-12 for the best readability.

To disable the AI writing assistant, click the green Jetpack icon in the upper right corner of the editor, and toggle off the “Show issues & suggestions” button.

Optimize the title

Use AI to optimize key details of your post, such as the title, with the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Pages or Posts and edit any existing piece of content (or create a new one).
  3. In the upper-right corner of the editing screen, click the Jetpack icon (it looks like a green circle with a lightning bolt inside).
  4. Click on “Improve with AI” to expand those options.
  5. Under “Optimize title,” click the “Generate title options” button.
  6. The tool will read your post and generate suggestions in a popup window. Select a new title from the options presented and click “Replace title“, or click the “Cancel” button to dismiss the suggestions.

You can create and use an AI-generated featured image for your post with the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Pages or Posts and edit any existing piece of content (or create a new one).
  3. In the upper-right corner of the editing screen, click the Jetpack icon (it looks like a green circle with a lightning bolt inside).
  4. Click on “Improve with AI” to expand those options.
  5. Under “Get Featured Image” click the “Generate image” button which will use AI to create a new image based on the post/page content.
  6. If you don’t like the first image, you can use the text box to describe the image you’d like to create and click the “Generate another image” button.
  7. You can repeat this process as many times as you like, and you can browse the previously generated images using the arrows below the image. All AI-generated images are automatically added to your website’s Media Library.
  8. With your desired featured image selected, click the “Set as featured image” button.

Receive AI feedback

If you’ve drafted a piece of writing, you can request AI feedback on the content structure. You’ll receive suggestions related to the writing, use of headings, images, links, and more.

To get AI-powered feedback on a piece of content, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Pages or Posts and edit any existing piece of content (or create a new one).
  3. In the upper-right corner of the editing screen, click the Jetpack icon (it looks like a green circle with a lightning bolt inside).
  4. Click on “Improve with AI” to expand those options.
  5. Click the “Generate feedback” button.
  6. A popup will appear with the feedback. Click the X to dismiss and return to editing.
