MANRS for Network Operators
Apply NowNetwork operators have a collective responsibility to ensure a globally robust and secure routing infrastructure. Your network’s safety depends on a routing infrastructure that weeds out bad actors and accidental misconfigurations that wreak havoc on the Internet. The more network operators work together, the fewer incidents there will be, and the less damage they can do.
The MANRS Network Operators Program defines the minimum steps network operators like Internet Service Providers should take to ensure the security and resilience of the Internet’s global routing system.
Actions
- Filtering. Ensure the correctness of your own announcements and those from your customers to adjacent networks
- Anti-spoofing. Enable source address validation for at least single-homed stub customer networks, their own end-users, and infrastructure
- Coordination. Maintain globally accessible, up-to-date contact information in common routing databases.
- Global information. Publish your data so others can validate
Implementation Guide
An Implementation Guide documents deployment of MANRS Actions and is targeted at stub networks and small providers. The document also assists in checking if the network setup is compliant with MANRS.
Testimonials
We strongly support MANRS precisely because its aims are converging with those we have been pursuing for years. This means that no change to our policies was necessary with our joining MANRS. We are glad that MANRS has come to light and we will do our best to support MANRS and its goals.
CEO FASTNETColoClue strongly believes in making the internet better by implementing security features sooner rather than later. We've been doing strict filtering based on IRR data for a long time; when RPKI became a thing, we soon implemented that too. We believe that the objectives of MANRS perfectly align with the goals of ColoClue, so it only makes sense to join!
We agree with the underlying principles of the MANRS initiative and in practice we have always ensured our network complies with the requirements it outlines. A number of recent high-profile cases have reaffirmed the need for such processes and we look forward to the wider adoption of these practices.
