Evolving Your Beta Distribution Workflow with DeployGate

Beyond Distribution: Built-In Feedback and Verification

What truly sets DeployGate apart is that it doesn’t stop at getting a build onto a device.
It closes the feedback loop directly inside the app development workflow.

With DeployGate, testers can capture screen recordings and screenshots directly from their devices and submit feedback in context. Instead of vague bug reports or lengthy back-and-forth clarification, developers receive clear, visual evidence of issues exactly as they occur — dramatically reducing the time between discovery and resolution.

DeployGate also removes another common bottleneck in modern development: device availability.

Through Instant Device, teams can verify app behavior without requiring physical devices. Developers, designers, and product managers can quickly check UI behavior, user flows, and regressions — even when a specific device is not on hand. For distributed teams and fast-paced iteration cycles, this eliminates unnecessary waiting and keeps momentum high.

From Beta Distribution Tool to Development Accelerator

Taken together, these capabilities transform DeployGate from a simple distribution mechanism into something far more powerful:

A shared feedback hub where context-rich insights flow naturally from testers to developers

A verification layer that reduces dependency on physical devices

A workflow accelerator that keeps iteration moving without artificial pauses

By integrating distribution, feedback, and verification into a single, lightweight workflow, DeployGate helps teams spend less time managing tools — and more time building better apps.

Analyzing the Titans: A Critical Look at the Pros and Cons

To understand the alternatives, we must first appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of the incumbents.

TestFlight: Apple’s Walled Garden

As Apple’s official beta distribution solution, TestFlight offers unparalleled integration with iOS, macOS, and the broader Apple ecosystem. For testers, the experience is seamless: a single official app manages all beta invitations. For developers, Xcode integration and symbolicated crash reports provide highly actionable insights directly within the IDE.

However, TestFlight’s greatest strength is also its most significant weakness: rigid control.

The mandatory Beta App Review for the first build of any new version distributed to external testers can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. For teams practicing continuous integration and rapid iteration, this delay can be deeply disruptive. It forces an uncomfortable choice: ship a fix to production without external validation, or leave users exposed to a known issue while waiting for review.

Firebase App Distribution: The Power of the Google Ecosystem

Firebase App Distribution, the successor to Fabric Beta, is built for speed and ecosystem synergy. Its standout advantage is seamless integration with Crashlytics — every distributed build is automatically tracked for stability, providing immediate insight into release health.

It is cross-platform, free, and highly automatable via CLI, Gradle, and fastlane, making it a strong fit for CI/CD-driven teams.

The primary friction point lies in tester onboarding. To install a build, testers must sign in with a Google account. While minor for internal teams, this requirement can become a real obstacle when working with external stakeholders or clients who may not use Google services or are reluctant to link personal accounts — introducing unnecessary communication overhead and delays.

Introducing a Focused Alternative: DeployGate

What if a distribution tool were designed not to lock you into an ecosystem, but to be the most flexible and frictionless component of your existing workflow?

This is the core philosophy behind DeployGate.

DeployGate is a specialist platform, laser-focused on making distribution, feedback, and verification incredibly simple — without imposing ecosystem constraints. Rather than solving a single step in isolation, it is designed to support the entire app development cycle, from sharing builds to validating behavior and collecting actionable feedback.

How DeployGate Addresses the Pain Points

Uncompromising Speed

Like Firebase, DeployGate has no review process. Builds are available the moment they are uploaded. For teams deploying multiple times per day via CI/CD, this immediacy is essential — and often indispensable for maintaining high development velocity.

Frictionless Simplicity

DeployGate’s standout feature is its effortless tester onboarding. Distribution happens via a simple web link. No tester accounts. No mandatory apps.

This simplicity is a game-changer when collaborating with non-technical stakeholders. Clients, designers, and managers can install a build with a single click and focus entirely on what matters: providing feedback.

Workflow Flexibility

Unlike TestFlight and Firebase, which derive much of their value from closed ecosystems, DeployGate is designed as an open, interoperable hub.

Its comprehensive API and powerful CLI integrate seamlessly with existing toolchains. Teams using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or custom DevOps pipelines consistently praise DeployGate for fitting naturally into their workflows — without forcing an ecosystem switch.

Beyond Distribution: Supporting the Entire Development Cycle

DeployGate goes further by addressing two often-overlooked challenges in app development: capturing high-quality feedback and verifying app behavior efficiently.

With Capture, testers can record screen videos or take screenshots directly on their devices and submit them alongside their feedback. This provides developers with immediate visual context, eliminating ambiguity and dramatically reducing the time spent reproducing and diagnosing issues.

With Instant Device, teams can verify app behavior even without physical devices. Developers, designers, and product managers can quickly review UI behavior, flows, and regressions — making it easier to validate changes and keep iteration moving, especially in distributed or fast-paced teams.

Together, these capabilities position DeployGate not merely as a beta distribution tool, but as a platform that actively supports collaboration, feedback, and verification across the entire app development workflow.

Head-to-Head: A Practical Comparison

When comparing the full workflow — from a code commit to a build running on a tester’s device — the differences become clear.

TestFlight’s review delays make it ill-suited for rapid iteration. Firebase and DeployGate both enable near-instant distribution, but the similarities largely end there.

DeployGate extends the feedback loop beyond delivery. With built-in capture, testers can submit screenshots and screen recordings directly from their devices, providing developers with immediate visual context. This significantly reduces ambiguity and shortens the time required to diagnose and fix issues.

Additionally, Instant Device allows teams to verify app behavior without physical hardware. This capability removes another common source of friction — device availability — and enables developers, designers, and product managers to validate changes quickly, even outside traditional testing environments.

As a result, DeployGate doesn’t just compete on distribution speed — it supports a more complete, efficient, and collaborative development workflow, especially when feedback and verification involve external stakeholders.

The Right Tool for the Job: A Scenario-Based Guide

There is no one-size-fits-all solution. The right tool depends on the job you need to accomplish.

Scenario 1: Internal QA & Daily Builds
Recommendation: Firebase App Distribution
Crashlytics integration provides unmatched visibility into build stability.

Scenario 2: Client & Stakeholder Acceptance Testing
Recommendation: DeployGate
Simple link-based sharing delivers the most professional, frictionless experience for non-technical users.

Scenario 3: Large-Scale Public iOS Beta
Recommendation: TestFlight
Its ability to support up to 10,000 external testers makes it ideal for public betas.

Scenario 4: Mature, Multi-Vendor DevOps Pipelines
Recommendation: DeployGate
Its API-first design adapts to complex workflows instead of redefining them.

Conclusion: It’s Not About “Best,” It’s About “Best for You”

There is no single “best” beta distribution platform — only trade-offs.

TestFlight offers deep integration at the cost of speed and control. Firebase delivers powerful insights and automation, but introduces ecosystem lock-in and onboarding friction. DeployGate takes a different approach: maximizing development velocity, workflow flexibility, and collaboration across all stakeholders.

If review delays slow your iteration, or if sharing builds feels harder than it should, it may be time to look beyond the defaults. For teams that value speed, clarity, and a truly agile development cycle, DeployGate is not just an alternative — it’s an accelerator.

Beyond TestFlight & Firebase: was originally published in DeployGate on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Why Do Users Drop Out During “eKYC” in FinTech Apps? How to Break Down the Walls Unseen in Development Environments

Why Do Users Drop Out During “eKYC” in FinTech Apps? How to Break Down the Walls Unseen in Development Environments

Revolutionary asset management algorithms, attractive cash back offers, and an intuitive UI. No matter how wonderful the FinTech service your team develops is, there is a “huge wall” that stands in the way before users can even experience it.

That is “eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer / Online Identity Verification)”.

For opening bank accounts or applying for credit cards, eKYC is an unavoidable gateway, but it is also the “magic point” where the most users drop out. “My ID card isn’t recognized no matter how many times I try,” “The app crashed before the camera even started” — with just one stumble like this, the user’s enthusiasm cools, and they may never return.

In this article, we will consider how to review the development process, especially the “test environment,” from both business and UX perspectives in order to reduce the eKYC churn rate in FinTech apps.

Why the “Right Answer” in Development Becomes the “Wrong Answer” for Users

Why do users stumble on features that were supposed to be carefully tested? The answer lies in the “gap” between the environment where engineers write code and the environment where users use the app.

Imagine the scene during development. The verification devices connected to the latest MacBooks are often high-spec iPhones or the latest Android devices. The office is bright, and powerful Wi-Fi is flying around. In a sense, it is a “greenhouse” for the app.

However, the user’s reality is much harsher.

Diverse Device Specs: OS versions from several years ago, Android devices with insufficient memory

Physical Adverse Conditions: Cracked screens, camera lenses dirty with fingerprints

Unstable Usage Environments: Dimly lit rooms, backlit cafes, unstable 4G connections

Plants (apps) raised in a greenhouse won’t necessarily survive in the storms outside. Moving “according to specs” in a comfortable environment does not guarantee that it will be “comfortable to use” in the user’s hands.

“Real Noise” That Emulators Can’t Reproduce

Especially in eKYC functions, this environmental gap becomes a fatal wound. This is because eKYC is not just data entry, but a function that works closely with hardware such as cameras and sensors.

For example, the action of tilting the device to photograph the thickness of a driver’s license. Even if it is recognized smoothly on an emulator or a specific verification device, on a device with low camera performance, the autofocus may keep searching, and the shooting may never complete. Also, under certain lighting, the hologram on the license may reflect, causing the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to keep spitting out errors.

These are not so much program bugs as they are a lack of resistance to real-world “noise.” Phenomena such as “the camera preview screen goes black only on specific models” or “the permission dialog appears at different times depending on the OS version” are extremely difficult to discover just on a desk.

The only way to break down this “invisible wall” is to conduct tests on “diverse real devices” and in “diverse environments.”

The Solution Is to Make the “Whole Team” Testers

However, buying devices from every manufacturer and preparing various lighting environments for testing is unrealistic in terms of both cost and resources. There is a limit to covering this “chaotic” real world with just the QA team.

What is effective here is the approach of expanding the scope of “dogfooding (using your own products)” outside the development team.

Development of FinTech services involves many members beyond engineers, including legal, compliance, customer support, and sales. They have diverse “personal devices” and “company devices” that are different from those of engineers. There is no reason not to utilize this resource.

Note: When testing on personal devices, establish strict operational rules to use test accounts and dummy personal information, and never handle production data.

For example, by utilizing a tool like DeployGate, you can immediately distribute the app under development (beta version) to internal members with just a single URL or QR code.

The point here is the idea of combining “legal checks” and “real device testing.” Usually, when legal staff confirm legal requirements for identity verification flows (such as compliance with the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds), they tend to judge based only on documents or screenshots. However, by having them actually install the app on their own devices and pass through eKYC as “one user,” you can obtain the following results simultaneously:

Compliance Confirmation: Checking if legal requirements are met

Compatibility Testing: Operation verification on diverse models and OSs (unintentionally covering a diverse range of environments)

UX Evaluation: Discovery of “hard-to-understand points” from a non-technical perspective

By creating an environment where members without specialized knowledge can easily install the app, the “dozens of real devices” within the company turn into a powerful testbed.

Sublimating Beyond Bug Fixes to “Hospitality”

What you find in diverse real-device testing is not just fatal bugs that cause crashes.

“On this model, the guide frame for shooting is too small to fit the license.”

“The text of the explanation is too small, so the parents’ generation might not be able to read it.”

“The loading time was long, so I got anxious thinking it had frozen.”

Feedback like this is worth more than bug reports. Because resolving these issues becomes the “first hospitality” for the user.

In financial services, “trust” is life. If the eKYC function, which is the first thing users touch after launching the app, is smooth and kind, users unconsciously feel that “it’s safe to entrust my money to this service.” Conversely, if you give them stress here, that distrust will ripple out to the entire service.

Summary

The silver bullet for lowering the eKYC churn rate is not just the introduction of advanced image recognition AI. It may be gritty, but “having as many members as possible touch the app in their own living environments” is the shortest route to quality improvement.

Break down the silos of the development team and conduct tests as a “total war” involving legal and sales as well. To that end, prepare a distribution environment (such as DeployGate) where anyone can easily participate in testing. The “usable quality” polished in this way will be the key to keeping users from dropping out and turning them into fans of your service.

Why Not Check eKYC Quality on “Real Devices” Right Now?

With DeployGate, you can immediately distribute FinTech apps under development to every device in the company with a single URL or QR code. Let’s start a “total war” testing system today that involves not just engineers, but also legal and compliance departments.

The first step toward “usable quality” that prevents user churn starts here.

Try DeployGate for Free

Why Do Users Drop Out During “eKYC” in FinTech Apps? was originally published in DeployGate on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

A Must-Read for Developers, PdMs, and CS! Introducing Instant Device: The Fastest Way to Do a “Quick Check”

A Must-Read for Developers, PdMs, and CS! Introducing Instant Device: The Fastest Way to Do a “Quick Check”

Hello! We’re the DeployGate team.

In app development, the need to “quickly check the latest version” happens every single day. But have you ever felt frustrated by waiting for a build, the hassle of installing it on a real device, or the barrier that makes it “hard for non-developers to check”?

To solve this mounting “verification hassle,” DeployGate is releasing our new feature, “Instant Device” (Beta)!

Instant Device eliminates the need for any physical devices or installation work, allowing you to launch and operate your app immediately, right in your browser. This makes the “first check” for everyone involved in app development dramatically faster and more effortless.

What is Instant Device?
https://medium.com/media/e9ced1900fcf5aaa91079a9b61766a54/href
As its name implies, Instant Device provides an “instantly usable device” directly in your browser.

Key Features of Instant Device

Immediacy: Open the URL, and the app launches in seconds. Anyone can experience the latest version right away.

Effortless: No physical device preparation, USB connections, UDID registration, or installation work required.

High Fidelity: This isn’t just a screen simulator; you can operate the app in an environment that closely mimics a real device.

Multi-platform: Supports both iOS and Android apps.

Seamlessly Switch Between “Quick Checks” and “Detailed Verification”

We want to emphasize that Instant Device is not meant to completely replace traditional installation on physical devices.

Its greatest value lies in allowing you to choose the optimal method based on the “context of the check.”

In app development, verification work is broadly divided into two phases:

Phase 1: Initial Checks: Minor, frequent verifications like, “Is the UI displaying correctly?” “Is the new wording live?” “Are the screen transitions working as intended?”

Phase 2: Detailed Verification: In-depth debugging and real-device-specific checks, such as, “What’s the performance on a real device?” “How does it integrate with OS-specific features (camera, notifications, location info)?” “How does it behave on an unstable network?”

Until now, we tended to handle both of these phases the same way: with a full “real device installation.”

Instant Device covers the “initial check” phase with overwhelming speed.

And what happens if, after a quick check on Instant Device, you decide, “I need to investigate this more thoroughly on a real device”? No problem. DeployGate allows you to seamlessly transition to a traditional physical device installation from the exact same distribution page.

First, do a quick check with Instant Device, and only move to a full device installation when necessary. This is the new app verification workflow provided by DeployGate.

Why Instant Device, Why Now?

The value Instant Device brings to your team goes beyond just “saving time.”

Faster Communication

The “Hey, what’s going on with this?” check between developers and other teams (PdMs, designers, CS) is completed just by sending a URL. By pasting the URL into Slack or a GitHub Issue, everyone can discuss while looking at the same thing instantly, dramatically speeding up the feedback loop.

“Initial Screening” for the Verification Cycle

Instant Device takes over the “minor verifications” and “spec checks” that likely account for about 80% of all confirmation tasks. This frees up developers and QA specialists to concentrate on the “in-depth issues that can only be verified on a real device.”

Removing the Barrier to “Touching the App”

Stakeholders who found it difficult to perform real-device checks (e.g., management, sales, or legal teams) can now easily interact with the product from their PC browser. It creates an opportunity for the entire team to deepen their understanding of the product.

Instant Device Use Cases

Instant Device (the app you can launch instantly in a browser) dramatically reduces “wait times” and “rework” across various development scenarios.

Let’s look at specific use cases by role to see whose problems it can solve and how.

For Developers (Engineers)

Challenge: Wait time and psychological hurdles for Pull Request (PR) reviews.

Before: The reviewer switches branches, builds locally, and checks the operation. This causes several minutes of waiting and makes reviewing feel burdensome.

After: Just paste the URL into the PR! The reviewer can instantly check the app’s behavior in their browser while looking at the code. If detailed rendering performance on a real device is needed, they can seamlessly transition from the same URL.

Challenge: The hassle of checking minor fixes.

Before: Even for minor changes like “fix one line of text” or “change a button color,” you had to go through the trouble of installing on a real device to check.

After: Launch in the browser, confirm the fix in seconds, and immediately move on to the next task.

For Product Managers (PdMs) / Directors

Challenge: Discussion stalls during sprint reviews due to “huddling” around one screen.

Before: During a review meeting, everyone huddles around a developer’s PC or a specific real device to check. Discussions often don’t proceed smoothly.

After: Share the URL with all participants. Everyone can freely operate the latest features on their own PC browser, allowing the discussion to flow smoothly.

Challenge: Development rework caused by delayed feedback.

Before: Installation was a hassle, so confirmation requests from developers tended to be postponed. Feedback was delayed, leading to rework.

After: While working on your PC, quickly check the behavior in another browser tab. If you decide “I want to see this on a real device,” you can install it on your smartphone right then and there. The speed of verification changes completely.

For Marketing / Sales Staff

Challenge: Time lag in preparing promotional materials.

Before: Had to ask developers to send screenshots or videos of new features in development.

After: Just open the URL to check the latest app screen yourself. You can take screenshots directly on your PC and use them immediately for creating materials.

Challenge: Demo preparation for sales meetings/events and unstable environments.

Before: Worried about preparing real devices for demos or installations in unstable network environments.

After: You can start a demo instantly on the customer’s PC browser, no installation required.

For Customer Support (CS) / QA Staff

Challenge: Reproducing bug reports (switching versions).

Before: Had to install each version to check “Which version did this occur in?” This burdened device storage and took time.

After: First, instantly switch between multiple versions in the browser to speed up the initial triage of a bug. After identifying a suspicious version, proceed to a detailed investigation on a real device. Work efficiency improves dramatically.

Challenge: The hassle of creating help documentation.

Before: Every time a new feature was released, you had to operate it on a real device, take screenshots, and transfer them to a PC.

After: Operate the app on your PC browser and take screenshots directly. Documentation creation is completed entirely on your PC.

How to Use and Eligible Plans

For more detailed information, such as specific upload steps for Instant Device (Beta) and eligible plans (available at no additional cost for Flexible/Enterprise plans during the beta period), please refer to the official documentation below.

Getting Started with Instant Device

Note: This is a beta feature. Please check the documentation for detailed prerequisites and important notes.

Summary and a Request to You

Our new feature, “Instant Device (Beta),” is designed to reduce the “wait time” and “hassle” for everyone involved in app development, accelerating both communication and the development cycle itself.

Please upload your app to DeployGate today and try this new experience. We eagerly await your feedback — anything you notice, any requests for improvement, or even just your positive reactions. No detail is too small.

Thank you for your continued support of DeployGate.

A Must-Read for Developers, PdMs, and CS! Device

Instant Device

Instant Device とは？
https://medium.com/media/e9ced1900fcf5aaa91079a9b61766a54/href
Instant Device

Instant Device

Instant Device

Instant Device

Instant Device

After: Now, we’ve expanded it to the free Individual Plan as well!

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to try the Capture feature.

What is the Capture feature?

The Capture feature automatically records and saves images (Screenshot Capture) and videos (Replay Capture) of errors discovered while testing apps distributed through DeployGate.

The visualization of bugs, UI/user errors, and other mistakes improves information sharing between development teams and test administrators/participants.

Please visit the following pages for more information:

Capture Feature Document

Informational Video (YouTube)

Capture Feature on the Individual Plan

To use the Capture feature on the Individual Plan, you can either upload an app from the Dashboard or update an existing app.

You must have a DeployGate account to use the Capture feature. For best results, invite other developers or testers as members.

Cautionary Notes

Retention Period: On the Individual Plan, the retention period for Captured still images and videos is 3 days. Please be aware that they will be automatically deleted after this time.

If you require a longer retention period (90 days), please consider upgrading to a Flexible or Enterprise Plan.

For Plan details, please visit: Pricing and Plans

If you are currently on an Old Plan, please create a new account.
FAQ
What is an Old Plan? We will continue to strive to improve our service further based on your feedback.

Please let us know if you have requests, comments, or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support of DeployGate!

The Capture feature is now available on Individual Plans! was originally published in DeployGate on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
