I cool it with air (a dark rock pro 5), and it barely touches 90 degrees during a summer stress test, when the room temp is 30+. No complaints on the temperature.
My first unit was defective though. A single core had spikes at 105 degrees when all others were around 80. Intel recognized the defect and agreed to replace the unit.
Since then, no other issues with this CPU. Very satisfied overall.
I used that space to route some cables actually. Also, I have the PSU switch on top, so I should account for that too. On the other hand, I've some free space behind the PSU, because of the shorter GPU. Small fans can fit there, but they'd fight with the PSU fan (which is turned inward as suggested by SGPC by the way, why did you turn it the other side?).
