Celebrating World Quantum Day with a foundational technical milestone: We’ve photonically interconnected two independent trapped-ion quantum systems, as part of a joint project with the Air Force Research Laboratory. This achievement marks the first demonstration of connected, commercial quantum computers, a critical step toward scaling quantum computation beyond a single processor. Kicking off World Quantum Day with a major announcement: IonQ has been awarded a contract in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)'s Heterogeneous Architectures for Quantum Program (HARQ). “We’re pleased to be selected for DARPA’s HARQ program. IonQ’s pioneering quantum interconnect technology can enable modular scalability not only for ion traps, but for a wide range of quantum technologies,” said Niccolo De Masi, our Chairman and CEO. “We look forward to collaborating with DARPA to strengthen national security by developing the quantum platform which can serve as a backbone for networking and scaling quantum systems - across qubit types - for advanced public and private sector applications.”  Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eutRjhDS #WorldQuantumDay

Today we announce a multi-year expansion of our partnership with the University of Maryland Quantum Lab (QLab), extending our joint efforts in quantum computing, quantum networking and workforce development. This next step in the ongoing collaboration deepens our integration with UMD researchers and students, positioning QLab as a leading testbed for next-generation quantum technologies, including quantum networking and memory systems – specifically, the first deployment of IonQ’s silicon vacancy (SiV)-based quantum memory node.
