How To Apply

Processing time:

• The current processing time for full-validity passports can be up to 4 weeks for both mail-in renewals and in-person applications.
• If you cannot wait 4 weeks, schedule an appointment.  During your appointment, request a one year, limited-validity emergency passport.  In most cases, your emergency passport will be ready later the same day, but may not be ready until the next business day.
• If you need a passport within the next 72 hours, request an urgent passport appointment.  We will see you at 9:00 a.m. the next business day.

You must apply by mail or drop-off if all of the following are true:

• You are applying for a full-validity passport and not an emergency passport.
• You can submit your most recent passport with your application.
• You were at least 16 years old when your most recent passport was issued.
• Your passport is undamaged apart from normal wear and tear.
• You have a 10-year passport issued within the past 15 years.
• Your passport was issued in your current name, or you can document your name change in the form of an original court order, marriage certificate, divorce decree, or ink-signed and stamped attestation af navneændring (attestation of name change).

You must apply in person if any of the following are true:

• You are applying for your first U.S. passport.
• You are under age 16.
• You need an emergency passport.
• Your previous passport was issued when you were under age 16.
• Your previous passport was issued more than 15 years ago.
• Your name has changed since your passport was issued and you are unable to document your name change.
• Your passport was lost, stolen, or damaged.

Each individual applying for a citizenship product in person requires an appointment.
