I purchased the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black six years ago for a high-end workstation/gaming build. After over half a decade of near-constant operation, I can confidently say this is the best, most reliable, and quietest component in my PC.
1. Performance: Still Chilling After 6 Years
When I first installed the D15, I was blown away by the temperatures. Even when overclocking my CPU, it kept temps well below dangerous thresholds. Fast-forward 6 years: I have never had a single thermal issue.
The dual-tower, 6-heatpipe design is just as effective today as it was in 2020. The build quality is legendary; the heatsink has not oxidized, and the copper base remains perfectly flat. It regularly keeps my CPU in the 30s-40s°C at idle and keeps things remarkably cool even under heavy rendering loads. The cooling performance rivals many 240mm+ AIO water coolers without the fear of pump failure or leaks.
2. Sound: The Definition of "Silent"
My biggest requirement was silence, and Noctua delivered. The two NF-A15 140mm fans are inaudible. I often find myself checking the case window just to make sure the fans are actually spinning because I can't hear them at all, even during intense cpu usage tasks.
They use SSO2 bearings, which are incredibly durable and do not grind or hum over time like cheaper alternatives. Even when the fan curve ramps up slightly, it’s a low-frequency hum rather than a high-pitched whine. If you want a silent PC, this is the gold standard.
3. Aesthetics: The "Chromax" Touch
The original NH-D15 is infamous for its beige/brown color scheme. The chromax.black version solves this completely. The matte black coating on the fins, the black fans, and the black anti-vibration pads look incredibly sleek and premium. Six years later, the black coating hasn't chipped or faded, adding a stealthy, high-end look to the build.
4. The Long-Term Experience (Maintenance)
The mounting system (SecuFirm2) is, in my opinion, the best in the industry. It made installation straightforward 6 years ago. Since then, I simply remove it to clean off the dust out once a year.
Installation & Maintenance tip: One fan I had to offset by a few millimeters due to RAM height. Still works great and just a heads up that it does not impede functionality or performance at all. Keep the fins clean with compressed air or even wife off with lightly damp cloth. I foresee this lasting another 6 years easily.
5. Reasons to Buy (Why it holds up)
Absolute Silence: The fans are virtually inaudible in daily use.
Excellent Thermal Performance: Keeps high-TDP CPUs very cool, competing with liquid coolers.

Minor and relative "Cons":
Size: This thing is massive and helps it look . Ensure your case has enough clearance (165mm+ height), but like I said earlier, your RAM height may require you to offset the front fan upward just a few millimeters...you can't really see the difference between fans.
Cost (worth every penny: It is a premium product, but at 6 years+ of use, the price-per-year is incredibly low.
Final Thoughts
Six years ago, I wanted a quiet, powerful cooler that looked good in a black-themed build. The Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black exceeded all expectations. It has never failed, never made a sound, and never let my CPU get too hot. It is quite simply the best air cooler on the market.

6 heatpipe dual-tower design
As compared to conventional single tower heatsinks, the NH-D15’s fine-tuned six heatpipe dual-tower design provides more surface area, better heat-distribution and superior airflow efficiency in dual-fan mode.
Dual NF-A15 140mm fans
The NH-D15 features two of Noctua's premium-class NF-A15 140mm fans. Complying with Noctua's AAO standard and featuring sophisticated aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels, the NF-A15 has quickly built up a reputation as one of the best 140mm fans on the market.
High RAM compatibility in single fan mode
Thanks to its recessed lower fins, the NH-D15 provides 64mm clearance for tall memory heatsinks in single fan mode, making it compatible with most high-end RAM modules on the market. In dual-fan mode, the NH-D15 should be used with standard-height RAM (up to 32mm).
*In chassis with more than 165mm CPU cooler clearance, the front fan can be moved upwards to make room for memory modules taller than 32mm.
Colour-customisable
Using the optional NA-HC3 and NA-HC4 heatsink covers as well as the NA-SAVP3 anti-vibration pads (available in black, blue, green, red, yellow, white), the NH-D15 chromax.black can be fully customised to fit popular build colour schemes such as black and red or black and white.

The Best CPU Cooler around hand down
Just finished my first PC build and couldn't be happier Build Sheet will also be a review (same review posted on each item for simplicity Case: NZXT H5 Elite The case has a wonderful design that is elegant and sleek the air flow is amazing considering the size. This case comes with X2 140MM RGB DUO NZXT Fans and an RGB Controller, over all 5/5 zero issues. ( This was not purchased on Amazon but as an open box at Best Buy (saved 45 bucks) PSU: Cosair 750w modular Honestly not much to say Cosair makes great products and this fits that bill!! All the wires you could possibly need for a 750w system, definitely has great vaule and looks 5/5 MOBO: GIGABYTE X670E It can be difficult these days to find a white motherboard, but the X670E definitely fits the bill. The board looks great and the built in RGB next to the panel connectors is awesome. This board has 4 NVMe slots Which is great for heavy storage of either games or other files. The GPU Pcie slot is also reinforced to help reduce some of the bigger 40 graphics cards from sagging. Definitely would recommend 5/5 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7700x Overall, a great CPU not really much to say it's a 16 thread 8 core CPU that pairs very well with the 4070 T.I.Super The AM5 design ensures that support for this specific CPU will be around for a while. Some people say the CPU gets hot on under load. I have yet to see any instances of that. 5/5 GPU: Aero OC 4070 Ti Super (16GB) The look and design of this GPU fits my build exactly the way I wanted it to the little R. G. B sign that's on the front of the graphics card. It's a nice touch. This is the OC Addition, which is unlocked from factory to enable overclocking, but with the 16 GB of V.Ram that's on this graphics card with it being the T.I super. overclocking is not required for games Just quite yet, maybe in the future It will but that's what I bought this so I'm semi future proof. 5/5 Ram: T Force RGB DDR5 6000mhz (32GB) Again, sort of like my CPU not really much to say here. The R GB is controllable through the gigabyte control app. Once you set up your p, c, so you could set any custom color and sort of wave pattern that you like. DDR 5 is definitely the way to go nowadays. With the increase speed that you can get on larger sets of Ram. These Ram sticks have a really nice. Metal shell casing on it, which also acts as a heat dissipator which is really great because these chips can get a little hotter at the higher speeds but overall no issues and the RGB looks great 5/5 CPU Cooler: Noctua DH15 Not much to say here.This is the best air cool.Ed around to market the rise in 7700X CPU Runs a little hotter than most other Amd Chipsets but this cooler has zero issues keeping it under control 5/5 Secondary Display: WOWNOVA 5" Computer Display I was entirely impressed with the design look and feel of this 5 inches display .It comes preloaded with presets that you're able to customize to your liking and you can upload your own as well!!. The RGB on these fans are absolutely amazing. One thing I will note though is NZXTs RGB controllers only control 3 fans per controller. So for every 3 fans that you have in your case, you will need an additional controller. Se ve imponente dentro del gabinete, los materiales de construcción (desde que lo sacas de la caja) se notan muy premium. La temperaturas son increíblemente buenas para ser de aire, hice la prueba con mi i7-8700 que es bien calientito (sin delid ni nada extraño) y la máxima que alcanza es 67° con mucho estrés. Hice una prueba con todos los ventiladores totalmente apagados (de la CPU y la caja) y con el test de CPU-Z alcanza 98 grados después de casi 10 minutos.Fernando CobosHermoso, de calidad, eficiente y silencioso.

Los ventiladores apenas se escuchan, en funcionamiento normal se escucha mas el disco duro que tengo instalado que los fans.
Pros:
- Buenas temperaturas, incluso con ventiladores totalmente apagados.
- La instalación del bloque de metal y sus anclajes es súper sencilla, el mas sencillo que he probado.
- El nivel de ruido es ridículo, y los fans pueden girar muy despacio cuando no se necesiten.
- La calidad, el empaque, y los accesorios incluidos.
- Ya trae los anclajes para LGA-1700.
Contras:
- Los fans son un poco complicados de poner y quitar, ademas, si no eres cuidadoso puede quedar mas alto de un lado y verse mal.
- Incluye una pasta NT-H1 de 3.5g, no es mala pero podría ser mejor, sugiero comprar una Kryonaut o una NT-H2.
- Incluso con mis RAM Corsair LPX de 35mm el primer ventilador queda un poco "salido", lo cual no se ve muy estético que digamos.
Conclusión: Recomendado, la mejor refrigeración por aire que he probado y mejor que muchas liquidas, pero sin sus complicaciones.
