SCOPE OF WORK
- Support Exec with protocol-related activities such as developing templates and new files for printing and tracking various protocol-related materials.
- Assist with functions aimed at ensuring the Protocol Office is highly organized and efficient.
- Interns will shadow the current Protocol Support Team to learn their duties and assist them as appropriate with various protocol-related duties.
- Assist with the Ambassador’s Office Manager with mail, correspondence and occasional outreach or internal communications in direct support of the Ambassador.
- Intern will report to the Ambassador’s Office Manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Currently enrolled in undergraduate and/or graduate study in international relations and diplomacy, public administration, political science and journalism, economics, or another relevant field.
- Must be knowledgeable in MS Office.
- Must have strong English language writing and speaking skills and excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Self-starter must be driven to succeed and work collaboratively and positively with others.
- Technically savvy, able to learn, apply, and teach others new technologies.
- Adaptable with excellent time management skills.
Training:
- Intern will be provided with training to use the Sales Force Customer Relationship Management (CRM) to assist with critical data management of contacts and tracking events for the Ambassador.
- Other training opportunities may be available – as appropriate.
REQUIRED DURATION
Six months.
WORK SCHEDULE
3-5 days per week, negotiable schedule (minimum of 25 hours per week, preferred)
COMPENSATION AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS
All internships are uncompensated. All students participating in the Local Internship Program will be considered volunteers pursuant to 5 U.S.C. § 3111. As such, they will not be “employees” of the U.S. Government or any of its agencies or missions.
MINIMUM AGE
Students must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation in the program.
CITIZENSHIP/LEGAL RESIDENCE
The Local Internship Program is only open to students who are either citizens or legal residents of Croatia. For legal residents, post must verify the citizenship or legal residency status and authorization to participate in a student volunteer program.
DEFINITION OF STUDENT
Applicants must meet the definition of student, as defined in 5 CFR § 308.101: “Student is an individual who is enrolled not less than half-time in a high school*, trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university or other accredited educational institution. An individual who is a student is deemed not to have ceased to be a student during an interim between school years if the interim is not more than 5 months and if such individual shows to the satisfaction of the agency that the individual has a bona fide intention of continuing to pursue a course of study or training in the same or different educational institution during the school semester (or other period into which the school year is divided) immediately after the interim.” *NOTE: To be considered for the Local Internship Program, students must have graduated from high school or equivalent secondary school prior to beginning the program and must be at least 18 years old. Also, there is not a break of service for purposes of this requirement if an individual is receiving academic credit for the internship, even if not otherwise taking classes.
TRANSCRIPT AND PERMISSION
Applicants must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution and must provide a certified transcript verifying this. Applicants must also provide written permission from the educational institution at which they are currently enrolled to participate in the Local Internship Program.
SECURITY AND MEDICAL CERTIFICATIONS
Applicants must receive a successful security certification from post prior to beginning the program.
