We are hiring engineers to build Europe's open-source office suite. Euro-Office is a joint initiative by IONOS, Nextcloud, and European technology partners to deliver a fully sovereign, high-performance alternative to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. It is the document-editing layer of IONOS Nextcloud Workspace and is targeted for a 1.0 release in summer 2026. To meet that deadline, Jan Richter is building the Euro Office Performance Group - a dedicated engineering unit at IONOS focused on one thing: making Euro-Office fast, reliable, and production-ready. The team is working with an AI-first methodology - using Claude, Cursor, and custom RAG pipelines as core development infrastructure. The roles span systems architecture, frontend performance, QA automation, DevOps, and full-stack engineering, across our offices in Berlin and Logroño. I'm building a team. And I want to be honest about what kind of team it is. Not a big one. Starting with 8 engineers. But the kind where every single person has a direct impact on something that matters — Europe's own, fully open-source office suite. At IONOS, I'm leading the Euro Office Performance Group: a dedicated unit inside one of Europe's largest cloud providers, tasked with building Euro-Office into a production-ready, high-performance productivity suite by summer 2026. The mission is real, the timeline is tight, and the technical challenges are genuinely hard. The core challenge: most web-based office editors are slow. Sluggish when typing. Painful over any real-world connection. We're fixing that by applying game engine thinking to a document editor: sub-10ms sync, 60fps canvas rendering, and real-time collaboration that actually holds up under load. The kind of performance users expect from a native app, delivered in a browser. What makes this team different is how we work. We don't measure output in lines of code. We use Claude, Cursor, and custom RAG pipelines as core infrastructure - not side tools. Our architects define the constraints, our specialists execute with AI leverage, and our QA engineers build systems that can actually keep up. Everyone here knows how to think and how to prompt. Gesucht werden OSS-Projekte aus der öffentlichen Verwaltung, die zeigen, wie #DigitaleSouveränität und digitale Transformation konkret umgesetzt werden. Was erwartet die Finalisten?
