Learning That Moves the World Forward
Academics That Ignite Action
Our nationally recognized programs are built to impact the world. From the first day of class, learning is active and deeply connected to life beyond campus. With more than 100 majors and 100 minors, plus a wide range of graduate and online offerings, Loyola distinguishes itself through an education that prepares you for success.
Where Research, Service, and Global Impact Come Together
By working alongside faculty on research, engaging with communities across Chicago, and learning in global settings, you gain experience that opens doors long after graduation. This is what defines Loyola.
Research with Purpose
Recognized as a Carnegie R1 research institution, Loyola University Chicago ranks among the nation's most active research universities. But what defines our research isn't what happens in the lab alone—it's application. From securing digital networks to informing public policy, students and faculty turn bold questions into global solutions. It is discovery shaped by responsibility and grounded in real-world needs.
Across Loyola’s Health Sciences Campus, our researchers are leading more than 400 active clinical trials, advancing treatments for cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious illness, and public health challenges that affect communities everywhere.
A Jesuit Mission That Serves Humanity
At Loyola, faith is a verb. It shapes how we research, teach, interact, and show up in the world, asking not only what we know but how that knowledge is used in the service of others. This conviction drives work like protecting Lake Michigan through long-term sustainability efforts and advancing health equity with a $51 million grant for our Institute for Translational Medicine.
Each year, our students contribute more than 240,000 hours of service, collaborating with 850+ community partners to address food insecurity, education and housing access, and environmental sustainability throughout Chicago. They turn the Jesuit call for justice into tangible, lasting change that sets Loyola apart among colleges in Chicago.
Global Learning and Engagement
What begins at Loyola Chicago carries global significance. Our research, partnerships, and international learning initiatives connect local work to global challenges, bringing expertise to areas where it can have far-reaching influence. Through opportunities such as Ricci Scholars or study at our Rome campus, we reinforce our ongoing investment in applying knowledge thoughtfully across cultures.
Loyola launched the Holistic Immigration Hub to address global displacement, migration, and human rights by integrating scholarship and practice within law, health care, education, public health, and social work.
Stories of Curiosity, Courage, and Impact
What happens when learning is rooted in the service of others? You see it in the projects our students engage in, the research our faculty lead, and the professional roles our alumni hold.
