From the ecologically rich Pecos Mountains to the rare Mexican gray wolf and the flowing Gila River, New Mexico Wild protects the cultural, ecological, and recreational treasures that make our state extraordinary. Guided by legal, policy, and scientific expertise, we organize and mobilize advocates to defend these irreplaceable landscapes and wildlife, ensuring they endure today and for generations to come.
OUR STORY
Founded in 1997 as the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, we are built on the belief that New Mexico’s wild lands and waters deserve careful, ethical stewardship. As threats evolve, our commitment to defending them is constant.
For nearly three decades, our staff at what’s now called New Mexico Wild, along with our diverse, statewide partners, have followed the guidance of Indigenous leaders and traditional communities and wielded policy, science, and the law to counter threats and protect New Mexico’s wilderness, wildlife, and water—always taking the long view to obtain permanent protections. This enduring resolve has allowed us to secure remarkable victories for wild places, water, species, and communities in every corner of New Mexico.
