Description
This entry-level cassette player is as simple as a real Walkman could be. No frills, inexpensive, and delivers good enough results.
This entry-level model was just about as simple as a Walkman could be. Free from needless frills, it was cheap and provided reasonably good results. A low-cost model such as this gave the users on a tight budget access to a proper Sony Walkman rather than a no-brand imitator.
What one got was very basic indeed. The simple specification did include a tape selector (normal or chrome/metal) and AVLS, a volume limiter designed to protect the listener’s hearing that offered two positions of effectiveness. The mechanism was a simplified version of one that included auto-reverse, so there were even counter-rotating flywheels which helped greatly with speed stability. The capstan of one of these flywheels was truncated as it was not used for tape transport. A simple mechanical automatic stop device was included that functioned on playback only, though it did offer some protection against jammed cassettes too.
Accessories were basic too, and limited to a removable belt clip and a pair of lightweight headphones. A version with a radio was produced, this was known as the WM-FX101.Via WalkmanCentral
