Walltopia delivered the climbing walls for Project Konepaja, a bouldering-only facility in Helsinki, completed in 2025 and set within a more than 100-year-old former train factory.

The project stands out with its thoughtful transformation of an industrial space into a modern climbing gym. The preserved brick facade and original architectural elements create a striking contrast with the clean, contemporary design of the climbing walls. This interplay between old and new gives the facility a distinct identity while making full use of the existing structure.

The gym features 472 sqm (5,080 sq ft) of climbing surface, finished in a combination of natural wood and solid color panels. The material palette creates warmth within the industrial atmosphere while providing a clear visual backdrop for route setting.

Careful space utilization and repurposing of the historic building allow the facility to serve modern community needs, transforming a former industrial site into a vibrant hub for sport and social interaction.

With a balanced mix of wall angles and movement styles, Project Konepaja supports both technical and dynamic climbing, offering a versatile environment for progression and everyday use.
