Use Magic Write to generate text

You can use Magic Write to generate copy from a text prompt or by using existing text in your document.

Generate from a text prompt

  1. Select the
    Quick actions button on the bottom-left of the page.
  2. Select
    Magic Write from the list. You can also type / to open the Quick actions shortcut.
  3. Enter the text you want to generate. You may also select from the suggested prompts. 
  4. Click Generate.
  5. Click Stop generation or press Esc on your keyboard to end.
  6. Click More like this to generate a similar result or This but… to enter additional instructions to improve the result.
  7. Select Insert to input the generated text on the design or
    Copy to copy the generated text.

Generate from existing text

  1. Select the text you want to generate from.
  2. Click the
    Magic Write button on the toolbar that appears.
  3. Select what you’d like to do to your text from the dropdown options and wait for your text to be processed. You can choose from the following:
    • Create Summary. Highlight multiple text groups to make this option appear.
    • Continue writing
    • Shorten
    • Rewrite
    • Change voice. Choose from More fun, More Formal, Sprinkle Fairy dust, or your saved tone of voice. Learn more about Creating your own writing style using Magic Write
    • Fix Spelling
    • Custom prompt. Use custom to type in a specific command that you want Magic Write to generate (ex. Turn this into a list).
  4. Click Stop generation or press Esc on your keyboard to end or wait until it's finished processing.
  5. Click More like this to generate a similar result or This but… to enter additional instructions to improve the result. Use the
    and
    chevrons to go back and compare results. 
  6. Once done, select Replace, Add below, or Copy.

Generate Presentation Notes

  1. Open an existing presentation or create a new one.
  2. On the editor, select
    Notes.
  3. Select
    Generate notes.
  4. Select between
    Using page content or
    Custom prompt. By selecting Using page content, Magic Write will create notes based on the presentation’s content. By selecting Custom prompt, you can type your own prompt for Magic Write.
  5. Wait for Magic Write to generate the notes. Once generated, you have the option to
    Improve notes by selecting any of the following options:
    • Continue notes: Adds more details and additional information to the generated notes
    • Shorten notes: Summarizes the generated notes to be more concise
    • Rewrite: Rewrites the generated notes
    • More fun: Rewrites the generated notes to have a more fun and casual tone
    • More formal: Rewrites the generated notes to be more formal and fit for business presentations

Shorten is the New Summarize. We've renamed Summarize to Shorten and introduced Create Summary, which uses AI to summarize content from selected elements like shapes, lines, arrows, sticky notes, and text.

Currently, names can't be excluded from summaries, but we're looking into it based on your feedback. Since AI summaries may vary in length and detail, we’d love to hear your thoughts in an upcoming survey to help us improve!
