Last week, we announced our collaboration with JLR and Arm as part of the UK Government’s DRIVE35 programme, delivered by the Department for Business and Trade in partnership with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK and Innovate UK. Now, we're expanding upon how this project will advance the UK's SDV supply chain to support vehicles that are safe, secure and maintainable across their lifecycle. Systems Software Experts. Open Source. Independent, Ethical, Effective. Leading in Enterprise, Devices and Automotive
About us
Codethink specialises in system-level software infrastructure to support advanced technical applications, working across a range of industries including finance, automotive, telecoms, medical devices, agriculture and heavy machinery. Typically we get involved in software architecture, design, development, integration, debugging and improvement on the deep scary plumbing code that makes most folks run away screaming. We aim to be great at software design and development, and to improve the practice of software engineering as a real engineering discipline. We have learned that we can only achieve this by sharing what we know, and absorbing what others can teach us.

Next Tuesday April 21st I’m hosting an Open Community Experience workshop on Trustable Software. This will be a great opportunity to get feedback on the Trustable Software Framework from community members who have been working with it. We launched TSF with the Eclipse Foundation last year after roughly ten years in the making, but in some ways we’re still at the start of its trajectory. During the meetup, we’ll share some of @Codethink’s internal work for the first time to folks who are serious about figuring out how to establish trust in software. We're under no illusion that we have all the answers. I expect AI to be a hot topic. We will be sharing some Codethink-specific perspectives on AI technologies and exploring ideas on how to apply Trustable for projects involving AI tools and solutions. If you're at OCX and this sounds interesting, please come along.

Is anyone in my network attending the Eclipse Foundation Open Source Community Experience Conference in Brussels next week? Myself and Lucas Biaggi will be presenting a talk ‘Trustable Software Framework for assuring integrity with Open Source based Systems’ on Wednesday 22nd at 14:00-14:45 in Studio 1. This talk aims to explain the rationale behind Codethink’s Trustable Software Framework (TSF) – and how a structured implementation of this methodology can support Open Source systems to meet safety goals and requirements. We hope to give a practical demonstration of how Developers can use TSF in their workflows. If you are going or if you’re interested, please let me know in the comments. Looking forward to presenting at OCX.

Whilst I enjoyed an Easter holiday exploring the Atlas Mountains I was off-line last week when this tremendous news was released regarding next round of #DRIVE35 support for the UK automotive sector. I'm proud to have played a part in four successful projects across a range of technologies, including some renewed relationships for JLR with projects led by HyProMag Ltd and Altilium Clean Technology and the start of something new in the software domain with Arm and Codethink. As usual a massive team effort to get to this point and always with steadfast support of Advanced Propulsion Centre UK. https://lnkd.in/eU39hjc7

Codethink will be collaborating with JLR and Arm as part of the UK Government’s DRIVE35 programme, delivered by the Department for Business and Trade in partnership with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK and Innovate UK. The Accelerated Software‑defined‑vehicle Technology (ASTech) project is a major step forward for the UK’s SDV supply chain. The initiative brings together advanced compute, modern software engineering, and industrial-scale integration, applying our proprietary tooling to help deliver JLR’s SDV vision on Arm’s Physical AI compute platform. This award represents a significant milestone for Codethink in bringing open source software, particularly Linux, to safety-critical systems. As part of ASTech, Codethink will deploy CTRL OS (Codethink Trustable Reproducible Linux), developed using the Trustable Software Framework (TSF), within our Software Integration Factory, a standardised machinery for the production of high-integrity critical software at scale. This supports safety, security, and long-term maintainability across the vehicle lifecycle.

I’m thrilled to share that, as part of the UK Government’s DRIVE35 programme - delivered by the Department for Business and Trade in partnership with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK and Innovate UK - our proposal to the Innovation Fund: Collaborate 1 has been selected. Alongside Arm and Codethink, this allows us to push ahead with the Accelerated Software‑defined‑vehicle Technology (ASTech) project to build next‑generation electric vehicle architecture that will power our SDV future. For our customers, the importance of software‑defined vehicle technologies is super important. They are the building blocks that will allow us to transform how drivers and passengers interact with our vehicles, and how those vehicles connect with the wider urban ecosystem, unlocking new digital services and customer experiences. For me, this project represents an exciting step toward the future we’ve been working toward - one where our vehicles become smarter, more connected, and continually evolving for our customers. I’m incredibly proud of our teams and partners driving this forward!
