Our co-founder, Zack Swafford, recently shared a deep dive into how the engineering workflow at Dart has fundamentally transformed as of March 2026. We’ve moved beyond simple AI autocomplete into a new discipline: Engineering Orchestration. Here are the four core pillars of our current high-velocity workflow: - High-Fidelity Voice Prompting: Using voice-to-text (120+ wpm) provides the exhaustive context that manual typing often misses, leading to better first-pass results. - The 40% Context Rule: LLM reasoning degrades once a chat exceeds 40% of its context window. We prioritize "context resets"—summarizing progress and starting fresh to maintain peak performance. - Closed-Loop Debugging: Instead of manual tracing, we instruct agents to implement their own logging and analyze the output via MCP servers to resolve complex race conditions autonomously. - The Engineer as Orchestrator: As implementation becomes more autonomous, the engineer’s value shifts toward setting vision, architectural review, and managing specialized agent fleets.
