There's dynamic pricing... and then there's algorithmic pricing. As a group that promotes transparency in how a user's data is collected and used, the idea of someone's online behavior being used against them. The trouble comes when this process takes place in a black box, with no regulation or oversight. Vytautas S., former CEO of member company Decodo calls this "the price tag that follows you home," and he has written a thoughtful article on this topic, which we encourage you to read and share. As he puts it, "The technology itself is neutral. How businesses choose to deploy it isn’t. Companies adopting algorithmic pricing have a responsibility to ensure their models operate transparently and don't exploit consumers who lack the tools or awareness to push back." https://lnkd.in/d7r2UWWX

Denas Grybauskas from Oxylabs.io makes the compelling case that meeting the demand for AI and running ethical data collection operations is not an either/or proposition—and, on the regulation side, that there are risks to moving too quickly in implementing new laws before we know what shakes out from the laws we have already. https://lnkd.in/gfQz72Wq #EWDCI #AI #LLM

As part of the larger i2Coalition community, it was fascinating to take part in meetings that addressed the world of the Internet that takes place below the content layer, so much of which influences—and is influenced by—the work that EWDCI does.
Each year, our members gather in Washington, D.C. for a series of face-to-face meetings with Congressional representatives and their staff to discuss the policies with the greatest impact on Internet infrastructure providers and the Internet itself. This year’s Fly-In took place in the middle of a federal government shutdown, which of course presented logistical challenges—but the strength of our relationships prevailed and we held many productive and informative meetings and panel discussions. This short video recap should give you a taste of what the Fly-In is like. https://lnkd.in/gE_nJv8H

Earlier this year, Oxylabs.io Head of Legal Denas Grybauskas spoke with Forbes about ongoing concerns about #dataprivacy and ownership in the #webscraping industry. Grybauskas predicted that these issues would remain critical in the coming year and beyond, with a focus on balancing the benefits of web scraping for businesses and #AI development against the need to protect individual privacy and data rights. The discussion includes potential regulatory changes and industry practices to address these challenges. Read the whole article here: https://lnkd.in/gknuVDVk
