𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜? Artificial intelligence is opening up new possibilities across research, but it also raises new, shared questions. 🛡️ How do we protect what we create? 🛡️ How do we ensure that innovation delivers real value? 🛡️ And how do we navigate ownership in an AI-driven world? At the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, these questions are part of everyday practice. These topics were also at the center of the AIPEX - Europe connected conference held on April 17 in Budapest, where research, innovation, and IP leaders came together to exchange perspectives. 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆! 🚀 Researchers from the HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics have achieved a major milestone in quantum science. The study led by Adam Gali in collaboration with Haibo Hu has been selected by the editors of Physical Review Letters as one of the most outstanding publications of 2025 in quantum information and technology. At the core of the research are atomic-scale defects in silicon carbide, capable of trapping single electrons and enabling precise control of their spin which is a fundamental requirement for quantum computing, sensing, and communication. A key challenge has now been solved: reliable readout of quantum states at room temperature. By applying slight mechanical strain to the crystal, researchers achieved over 60% spin readout contrast – a significant step toward practical applications. ⚙️ This result brings quantum technologies closer to real-world use, from highly sensitive sensors to next-generation computing systems. This Hungarian–Chinese collaboration opens new pathways in quantum communication and biocompatible photonics. Congratulations to Adam Gali, head of the National Laboratory for Quantum Information, who has recently been elected as a member of the prestigious Academia Europaea. #HUNREN #quantumtechnology #science #innovation #research

🚀 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲? Today, the development of the global space sector is primarily shaped by the competition between the United States and China. They set the pace, whether it’s lunar missions, satellite infrastructure, or the space stations of the future. They represent more than two-thirds of the market, while the industry’s value could triple over the next decade. At first glance, there seems to be little room for smaller countries in this competition. But that’s just the surface. Zsolt SZALAY, Ph.D., HUN-REN’s vice president for STEM, spoke to Portfolio about current developments in the sector, while British astronaut Tim Peake CMG addressed the question of how small countries can get involved in space exploration. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲. Hungary’s strength is not a recent phenomenon. The HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and the domestic scientific community build on decades of experience, dating back to the mission of Bertalan Farkas. More recently, Tibor Kapu’s work has also demonstrated that Hungarian expertise remains relevant on the international stage, which is also inspiring. For us, the recent Space-Comm Expo in London carried a clear message: Hungarian expertise is strong. A smaller country cannot be present in every field. A strategic advantage comes from clearly identifying the areas where: – we can provide real added value – industry and research can collaborate – a sustainable position can be built in the long term The space race isn’t decided when we set off, but when we decide what we want to win at. 🎲 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dSurGsYw
