When shit hits the fan in production, I want a human leading the charge. 🤷🏼♂️ At FastRuby.io I’ve worked A LOT with legacy code and engineering orgs where “the person who wrote that code is no longer around.” 🤖 AI can certainly help remediate tech debt and gradually improve legacy code quickly. That is undeniable. But I believe this will always be a constant: When shit hits the fan in production and I need to fix things quickly, I want a human leading that. That human will have to understand the context, biz goals, and code in order to put out that fire. 🔥 I strongly recommend dev teams set proper guardrails for their AI-generated code. Codify what “acceptable tech debt”, “maintainable code”, and “code quality” mean to your team and feed that to your favorite AI tool. This will save teams lots of time and headaches in code review, QA, and rework. Even so, use peer reviewed studies to make decisions about team size and productivity gains. As much as we love the excitement about AI, this has always been the way we make decisions at OmbuLabs.ai 🚀 A recent study by DX shows AI saves software engineers an average of 4 hours per week. Many leaders are entering the "just throw Claude Code at the Rails upgrade" phase. Here is what they will learn 👩🏻💻📓✍🏻💡 🐺 There is no silver bullet Fred Brooks said it decades ago. Claude Code can fix deprecations.
 It can help with failing tests.
 It can untangle stack traces. But it won't replace engineering judgment. AI is an amplifier.
 It amplifies experience.
 It also amplifies confusion. Senior engineers get leverage. 
Inexperienced teams get faster chaos. AI compresses execution. It does not replace thinking. We've seen this over and over again at FastRuby.io which leads me to my next point... 🍾 The code was never the bottleneck Yes, AI will generate upgrade changes faster. But now you have more PRs moving through: 🕙 Code review 🕙 QA 🕙 Staging 🕙 Production deploy 🕙 Monitoring 🕙 Rollbacks 🕙 Rework Throughput increases.
 System capacity does not. If your SDLC is fragile, AI will find the cracks. ⚡ Product roadmap vs. tech debt tension gets sharper Major upgrades often need code freezes. 
Product roadmaps hate code freezes. Faster upgrade PRs do not remove the tradeoffs.
 They intensify them. AI increases velocity.
 Velocity increases friction in weak systems. The bottom line is that increased usage of AI is here. And it is stress testing your entire software development lifecycle. 💰 The bottom line I recommend decision makers take this as an opportunity to learn from these results. The dream of version upgrades on autopilot is just that: a dream. Human involvement is not going away. It’s becoming more important. If you are leading engineering through AI-assisted upgrades: 1. Trust your senior engineers 2. Invest in your delivery process 3. Strengthen review and QA capacity before you increase output AI won't end complexity. I know many engineering teams have nightmares about pointy-haired bosses recommending Claude Code fixes bugs, ships features, and deploys things to production with no oversight. To these non-technical decision makers I say this: Trust the humans in your team. This is key to all of our leaders at OmbuLabs.ai.
