In our data compression projects, we sometimes hit limitations in Rust itself and in the surrounding tooling. In this blog, Folkert covers some of our contributions to the Rust compiler and shows how we have become increasingly comfortable fixing these issues ourselves: https://lnkd.in/eNhA-AND #rustlang #opensource

** Announcement ** Ubuntu to adopt ntpd-rs as the default time synchronization client and server. We're proud of this huge next step for ntpd-rs, and the boost to the impact of our work! With thanks to Canonical for their continued support, and our partners and previous supporters, Internet Security Research Group (ISRG), Sovereign Tech Agency, NGI Commons and NLnet foundation for making this possible. https://lnkd.in/eeXwBbGy

Announcement: ntpd-rs is coming to Ubuntu! In Rust Nation UK's closing keynote Canonical announced that we are preparing ntpd-rs, our Network Time Protocol implementation, for Ubuntu. Canonical will support our work and help us reach a long-term goal in our roadmap: shipping both the Network Time Protocol and the Precision Time Protocol in a single utility. Also, a big thanks to Jon Seager for the wonderful compliments about the journey of sudo-rs to Ubuntu. Watch the keynote here: https://lnkd.in/eF4NUr35 #ubuntu #rust #rustlang

The Network Time Protocol is generally used completely unprotected, much like the web was before HTTPS. At FOSDEM 2026, Ruben Nijveld explained how we aim to push adoption of secure time (NTS) using pools of NTS servers. Zlib-rs is now feature-complete! We've released v0.6, the first version with a stable and complete API. The blog post has the details. Zlib-rs offers an alternative to C/C++ counterparts. It provides on-par (or better!) performance while reducing attack surface through memory safety. With thanks to our maintainer Folkert de Vries, our contributors and Sovereign Tech Agency. https://lnkd.in/eEgzcH9n #rust #rustlang

Sudo-rs maintainer Marc Schoolderman was invited to the 2025 Ubuntu Summit to talk about the design choices that shaped sudo-rs. Watch the talk here: https://lnkd.in/e6zxpxCm Canonical #rustlang

New release of sudo-rs! Version 0.2.11 is out with askpass and multi-lingual support. We've already started on making sudo speak Dutch. Want to see it in your language? You can start helping out today. PR's are always welcome! We thank the Sovereign Tech Agency for investing in this work, as well as 15 external contributors! https://lnkd.in/eFsD5jdH
