Description Tonny Madsen CLA 2007-05-19 14:40:42 EDT
It would be very helpful if eclipse.org could provide download statistics for the different Eclipse projects.

Ideally the information should be broken down in a number of dimensions:

1. projects
2. countries and regions
3. time (date)

This way service providers in different countries can figure out the general trend for the different projects -- hopefully well in advance of the potential customers.

Reassigning to webmaster for answer.

I think this is a neat idea. Although each project can get and publish download statistics of their own, perhaps the Foundation can publish high-level download statistics on a regular basis?

Adjusting the priority.

If we could hook p2 into the UDC (bug 239668), and send that data back to the foundation for people who've opted in to share that information, we'd have a lot more information than in currently available via Google Analytics or the downloads database, since I'm guessing more than 80%* of downloads are done by p2 outside the normal sphere of trackable downloads.

* 80:20 was the ratio of update site jars to zips during the Eclipse 3.3 download stats era, before p2 broke our ability to track via update sites.

Wayne, any chance of p2-UDC integration?

What should we listen to? What hooks does p2 provide that I can gather information from?

I have no idea... does p2 keep track of every URL (.jar or .jar.pack.gz) it fetches from a remote site?

We are retiring the metrics dashboard.
