In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, considering how monsters and Link can use the same weapons, I was wondering what would happen if a monster (say, a Bokoblin) accidentally hit another one (how that would happen is a completely different matter though).

Will the hit monster take damage, or will it just phase through them? And for monsters like Guardians (and most bosses), which have a weapon that Link can't obtain, can they accidentally hurt another monster as well? And if they can damage each other, will they fight each other (as in, the attacked monster will strike back)?

  • I don't have the game right now to check, but I'm sure enemies can hit each other. It's part of the sandbox aspect of Zelda BotW. Things trigger each other. For example I'm sure that if you have an enemy shooting something at you and you manage to bring them near one of those big monsters sleeping, and you circle around, one of the projectiles will end up hitting the monster and wake them up. Someone will confirm eventually in the answers. Commented yesterday

Yes, enemies can damage each other.

It's part of the sandbox aspect of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Elements and effects trigger and interact with each other.

On the episode about the Nintendo Switch and Zelda BotW from the New Game Plus podcast (my favorite podcast, discontinued since 2020), Jose Sáez Merino, one of the hosts, says that it surprised him when he was fighting some bokoblins at night, when suddenly some skeletons emerged from the ground, and the fight became Link vs Bokoblins vs Skeletons (them fighting each other too).

  • So the monsters will fight back against each other as well, correct? Commented yesterday
  • @Blue-Blimp Correct. Commented yesterday
  • And do you know if this is for all monsters, or just the ones that have weapons that Link can also use? Commented yesterday
  • @Blue-Blimp I don't know. Commented yesterday

I remember from a YouTube video I watched a while ago, "Guardian vs Hinox EPIC BATTLE!" by ThornyFox, that Guardians are capable of attacking all enemy types.

  • In this case they are not attacking each others, they are just trying to kill Link hitting the other enemy by mistake Commented yesterday

Yes, but the question is asking if enemies can damage each other, and so even if it's by "accident" it still counts, right? Commented yesterday
  • There's also youtube.com/watch?v=E4hUwuEGgCI, for further evidence. Commented yesterday
  • Yes. But OP also asked a second question: "And if they can damage each other, will they fight each other?", which answer is indeed no. Commented yesterday
