Game requirements look simple until two processors or graphics cards have to be compared. Model names are not a reliable performance ladder: a newer entry-level part can be slower than an older high-end one, and laptop versions may perform differently from desktop hardware. dobenchmark maps the CPU and GPU named by a game to comparable benchmark data, then evaluates each component separately.

The result is intentionally component based. A fast processor cannot compensate for a graphics card below minimum, and extra storage cannot replace missing memory. When you ask “can my PC run it?”, the useful answer is not one mysterious total score—it is a clear view of which parts pass, which are close, and which part is likely to hold the system back.

Can I run it with minimum specs?

Meeting every minimum requirement is a useful starting point, but it does not describe a guaranteed visual preset or frame rate. Minimum specifications often target a playable baseline with conservative settings. The experience can still vary with resolution, game updates, background applications, storage speed, drivers, and cooling.

Pay special attention to the component closest to the requirement. A PC that comfortably passes CPU, RAM, and storage but barely reaches the graphics requirement will usually be limited by the GPU. If a result is marked Close, treat it as a prompt to lower demanding settings and check real gameplay performance rather than as a promise.

Minimum vs recommended system requirements

Minimum requirements answer whether the game is expected to run at its basic target. Recommended requirements describe a stronger configuration that should provide more headroom, but publishers do not all use the same resolution, quality preset, or frame-rate target. That is why dobenchmark presents both tiers instead of collapsing them into one yes-or-no badge.

A result that passes minimum but misses recommended is still useful: the game may run, while higher settings or smoother performance may require an upgrade. Passing recommended is a stronger signal, yet it still should not be read as a guaranteed 60 FPS result. Accurate FPS estimates need game-specific test data for the chosen resolution and preset.

How to find your PC specifications

On Windows, open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc and select the Performance tab. The CPU panel shows the processor model, the Memory panel shows installed RAM, and the GPU panel lists the graphics adapter. For storage, open File Explorer, select This PC, and check the free space on the drive where the game will be installed.

Use the complete hardware model when searching. “Intel i7” or “Nvidia graphics” is not precise enough because those families contain many generations and performance levels. Laptop users should choose the mobile or laptop version when it exists. If Windows lists both integrated and dedicated graphics, select the GPU that the game will actually use.

The limiting component

Games do not place equal pressure on every part of a PC. A large strategy simulation may be limited by processor performance, while a visually demanding action game is more likely to depend on the graphics card. A system can therefore pass three checks and still feel slow because the fourth component is the bottleneck.

Use the component-level result to identify that constraint. If the GPU falls below minimum, lowering resolution and visual effects may help more than closing background applications. If the CPU is the weak point, settings related to crowds, physics, simulation, or draw distance can matter more. RAM below the requirement may cause stutter or heavy disk activity even when average frame rate looks acceptable.

Resolution and graphics settings

Rendering at 1440p or 4K asks the graphics card to process far more pixels than 1080p. That means a PC that runs a game comfortably at a lower resolution may struggle when resolution, ray tracing, shadows, reflections, or texture quality are raised. Recommended requirements are not always tied to one clearly published preset, so they should be read as added headroom rather than a universal performance target.

If your system passes minimum but not recommended, begin with the game's low or medium preset and use a native or modest resolution. Change one demanding option at a time, then test a busy area rather than only the opening menu. Upscaling technologies can improve frame rate on supported GPUs, but image quality and latency tradeoffs still depend on the selected mode.

Drivers, power, and cooling

Hardware names alone do not capture the condition in which those parts operate. Outdated graphics drivers, a nearly full system drive, aggressive background software, or a laptop set to battery-saving mode can reduce performance. Game patches may also improve or worsen optimization after the publisher first lists its requirements.

Before deciding that an upgrade is necessary, update the graphics driver from the hardware manufacturer, connect a gaming laptop to power, close unnecessary background tasks, and leave enough free storage for updates and temporary files. Excessive temperature can make a CPU or GPU reduce its clock speed, so blocked vents and failing fans can turn otherwise capable hardware into an inconsistent experience. The checker cannot observe these conditions, which is why its result should be treated as a hardware baseline.
